This is a lovely quiet artist's home with white beams, a designer bathroom with a minimalist flavor inside a magnificent 17th century manor with a rich history.
RELAXING
The apt has a very nurturing and relaxing effect on people. In the evening there is hardly a sound, and the top of the Bayeux cathedral is visible through the medieval rooftops. The living room area has a six-seater comfy sofa, an armchair and a single bed on a raised area in Moroccan style - which can be used for a third guest if necessary, although the apt is ideally only suited for two. There's a chess set and a multi-game box in the apt.
GARDEN
The huge front walled courtyard has conical shrubs and a 17th century layout. A vast walled rear garden (communal but rarely used) is seconds from the apartment door - two deckchairs and small table provided. There is an outside garden tap for rinsing beach kit, wetsuits.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Mobile phone signals are usually very good inside the apt. There are internet cafes in Caen. International newspapers are on sale minutes away in the main newsagents / stationers, down Rue St Malo, about 8 mins walk.
COSY WINTERS
There are five electric heaters that keep the apt very cosy, even in deep winter - Bayeux is also a lovely place to spend Christmas. The rear wall of the apt is seven feet thick - once the outer battlement wall of the castle - so it feels very protected. Plenty of spare fuses, kept in the fuse box.
CLEANING
There's a small fee of €45 to be left on the table for the cleaning lady - includes washing all linen and towels. There are pairs of new one-size fits all French house slippers for guests; the white carpet will appreciate your wearing them very much. There are two laundromats very close.
SECURITY DEPOSIT
A modest security deposit of £100 (cheque is fine) is to be given to the Concierge, Mme Lepage, who will greet you with the keys on the day of your arrival, and who lives a street away. She safely destroys this deposit the day of your departure after a quick inspection. Please return the keys to Mme Lepage or drop them in my mailbox marked 'JP TREVOR', inside the inner courtyard maibox area. The rent is inclusive of electricity, water, bed linens, towels, quilts and as you will be booking with the owner of the apt, there are no agency fees.
BOOKING
Half payable upon booking, balance payable one month before stay - unless booked within one month of visit; full amount payable in this case.
Preferred payment method: bank to bank transfer / wire.

Local Area Details

PARKING
Free parking is available around the beautiful General de Gaulle lawned square, surrounded by trees with a stone fountain - a minute away. Often there are free parking spaces in the street outside the manor. A private garage within the manor is available some months - dependant on the owner of the garage being in residence. Please ask.
FLEXIBLE
Arrival and departure days are flexible. Arrival time is requested to be no later than 8pm.
RESTAURANTS
There are a variety of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets within a few minutes walk. Delicious local fresh seafood restaurants are seven miles away on the sandy coast at Port en Bessin - the fishing trawlers are right outside the restaurants.
LEISURE / BEACHES
The nearest golf course is an all year-round 27 hole international club also near Port en Bessin: phone: 02 31 22 12 12. Sandy beaches are seven miles away with a variety of water sports, sail boats and wind chariots for rent. The huge Bayeux gothic cathedral, the Bayeux Tapestry, yoga classes and a public swimming pool are all between 10 - 20 mins walk.
SEAWEED / MUD SPA
Luc Sur Mer Cure Marine is a Thallasotherapy Spa - seaweed, salt-water, mud baths, an authentic Morrocan Hamaan and other therapies - is on the coast, about 45 - 55 min from Bayeux in Luc Sur Mer. Phone: 01 53 21 86 15
ENTERTAINMENT
The local cinema with three screens is a 10 min walk. Theatres and multiplex cinemas are mostly in Caen.
BEAUTY SPOTS / SCENERY
The Normandy National Park is not far south, and Deauville - where the American Film Festival takes place every year - is about an hour and a half drive, with Honfleur, the artists town on the coast a bit further up.
SHOPPING / HAIRDRSSERS
A full range of shops, supermarkets, Paris style boutiques, patisseries and hairdressers are within minutes walk from the apt. Leclerc, the main supermarket is 20 minutes walk. Super U, a smaller supermarket is 12 mins away.
TRANSPORT
The Bayeux train station with connections to Paris is around 25 mins walk from the apt. Bayeux station to Caen main station is 15 mins. The Caen Carpiquet airport is about 20 mins drive, with flights to Europe. There are numerous garages and petrol stations around Bayeux. The nearest cross channel ferry terminal is Caen / Oustreham; a comfortable 45 - 60 min drive from Bayeux. Brittany Ferries is the main carrier. Cherbourg ferry terminal is the second nearest, a good hours drive.
FOOD / MARKETS
There's a large open-air food and goods market each Saturday around the corner in Place St Patrice, and another smaller street market, near the Tourist Info center at the bottom of Rue St Malo, every Wednesday. Once a year in June is the Medieval Festival with many food stands. Freshly baked croissants are a minute away from the apt. A home made authentic cous-cous shop is not far from the apt, (menu with phone number and directions inside Castilly folder in apt), it's really delicious.
HEALTH
There is a very efficient main Bayeux hospital 15 mins walk away, facing the rear of the cathedral. Phone numbers for doctors, ambulance, police and general emergency needs are all listed in the Castilly folder in the apt. Numerous chemists are on Rue St Malo, most have homeopathic remedies. At least one chemist will be open on Sundays. Bayeux is a very safe place and the mayor of Bayeux takes pride in this.
