Property Details of Malopolskie Apartment

Austere Elegance
- the touch of colonial style -

visited and recommended by BBC Good Homes and Russian Voyage magazines

General description

Sauna - air-conditioning – 3 BEDROOMS - 2 BATHROOMS - floor imbedded Zen Garden – Internet - Plasma TV in every bedroom - excellent location

Air-conditioned throughout, with sauna, spacious, superbly furnished and equipped to the highest standard four room apartment with excellent old town location and style that mesmerizes. The name - Austere Elegance - truly reflects the apartment’s character by being simple but elegant, plush but without unnecessary frills. Interior architect brought unique character to all the rooms of the superb apartment making it an excellent choice for guests with sophisticated taste.

Note this apartment neighbours another two apartments we rent which means that a group of up to 22 people can be accommodated in one location. Apartments: Austere Elegance, Rustic Splendor and Red Desert Mirage are completely independent but located on the same floor of a building thus family or friends can be close at hand, just across the commonly shared hall.

Hall – the path to paradise
A long and wide passage with lofty dining room at its end. The underling idea of the architects was to convert the passage into a pathway to paradise, that is, create a strong contrast between darkish elegance of the entire hall and exploding at its end warmth and brightness of dining area. Heavy oak table silhouetted against an old, richly ornamented door creates an ambience of secret passage to the unknown. The darkish elegance of hall was reinforced by unusual floor design - The flooring pattern has been a successful experiment brining to life long forgotten village garden path style where pieces of wooden logs are tightly placed not in horizontal but in vertical position exposing heavy network of contrastive tree rings – we made it and the effect is staggering! The ‘living’ mosaic is just beautiful.
Living room

Is our most cherished design. Its style is austere but elegant. The main highlight of this place is a dark brown exotic wooden wall and emerging from its center, made-to-order, stunning work of art - large 3D “picture” made of pieces of patinaed copper presented in a classy wooden frame. Variety of copper surfaces within the picture were twisted at seemingly accidental angles so that they reflect and cast subdued light at different directions creating truly warm atmosphere all over the place. The wall across the room is almost empty – the little something it has is a set of old, wooden trunks converted into low wall cupboard. Classy set of dark brown leather furniture, ceramic decorations and exotic flooring complement the picture of Austere Elegance living room. Guests with sophisticated taste will love this place.

Zen Rock Garden Bedroom

Experience ambiance of pure tranquility in our Zen Rock Garden Bedroom. Inspired by the world-famous Zen rock garden at Ryoan-ji in Kyoto Japan, we fell in love with the idea of combining Colonial Style with Japanese Zen gardens meticulously created of sand grains reflecting natural mountains and rivers. Embedded in the floor, enormous lit-up aquarium displays soothing sand and stones landscape melting away your stress. The bed itself is a simple and beautiful design based on the idea of one curved line. Behind the bed, we have created a beautiful hideout we call ‘window in the window’ effect. Large wooden frame encapsulates window frame creating a bench divided by a little coffee table. Underneath, a set of old chests creates truly colonial feeling.

Colonial Flavour bedroom

The bedroom welcomes you with gigantic, hand-made-to order ceramic wall design reflecting 3 dimensional, wall climbing tree branches. The decor is extremely sophisticated and romantic. The bedroom’s furniture is dark brown and thus very elegant. It has beautiful wardrobe, practical shelves and most of all a large double bed. Lit-up at the bottom, the bed creates the effect as if the bed was floating over the floor.

Bathroom & Sauna
The bathroom has a toilet, a bidet and a large stand-up shower and thus has all it needs to be comfortable. Excellent design of dark brown and bright tiles with surface reminding of classy leather silhouetted against them bright elements such as hand made to order ceramic washing basin and lit up wooden sculptures. Feel like walking barefoot on exotic flooring? The in-floor heating system will make your stay in this beautiful bathroom warm and pleasant. Attached to the bathroom is a transparent door leading to the sauna. We are truly happy we have managed to bring in luxury that comes with a sauna, especially being aware that it is rather large houses outside costly cities that can afford such a luxury within extremely high square meter prices of Krakow apartments. Luckily, originally the old apartment featured a large pantry without a window – which simply demanded to be converted into the sauna for the enjoyment of our guests. It goes without saying that the Sauna has stereo to add up more flavour to your free time.

Second Bathroom
When arranging the functionality of the apartment, in case of as many as three bedrooms, we obviously predicted the need for more than one bathroom. The second bathroom has a large stand-up shower, a toilet and a washing basin. Although, this is a bit smaller bathroom and with lower design potential for architects, we made it very nice and comfortable

Local Area Details

Fast developing but still exotic old town enchants its visitors offering restaurants, bars, cafes, a castle, museums, night-life. The largest in Europe main square lures with its unspeakable good-vibes atmosphere and makes one want to hang out either without a specific purpose or to watch outdoor events happening on the daily basis.

Krakow is only 20 minutes from Wieliczka (worldwide unique salt mines), 30 minutes from National Ojcowski Park, 90 minutes from Oswiecim (Aushwitz) and 2 hours from the Tatra mountains (hiking, skiing).

Our flat is located 15 seconds from 24 h grocery shop, 2 minutes from the hospital and the drugstore, within 4 minutes walk from an open air market and a bus/tram stop and is within walking distance to virtually everything one may want to have, see, experience, including undoubtedly most unique in their character pubs in the world :). Finally, although Krakow is generally considered to be a safe city, our apartment is in particularly risk-free neighborhood. We?d love to share our expertise and knowledge of Krakow with travelers and can provide you with a unique and rewarding experience only possible when you know the locals. We will simply save your precious time that you will devote to experiencing and not just groping.
UK Reviews
This is a spacious and attractive flat, filled with everything you could possibly need during your stay. It is perfectly situated a few minutes' walk away from the Old Town square. The flat's owner was extremely helpful - accommodating all our needs and even giving us some helpful advice on which bars and restaurants are particularly worth a visit (as well as advising us on which parts of his CD collection were worth a listen!). All this comes at a remarkably reasonable price. The perfect place to stay for any group of visitors to the beautiful city of Krakow. Nick

MALTA Reviews
We spent 7 nights is Krakow and it was great! Remember to visit neighboring Zakopane City if you like the snow and ski. About the apartment it is amazing.. first of all it is very cozy. It is fully heated and really equipped with all the stuff you really need. The apartment is also very secure. It is situated in a very good place.. few steps away from a 24hr grocer.. and a walking distance from the main square. But above all the owner of this worth it! apartment is Pawel. He is a very intelligent and helpful guy. I really mean it.. Cause in the last minute.. one of my friends could not find his passport and he made his best to help us which involved many phone calls, bureaucracy necessary to leave a country without a passport. If it were not Pawel.. my friend would probably have to stay in Krakow canceling his flight doing what he could to solve his problem. Trust him! Pawel speaks English.. and will give you many tips where to go and what to do.. Go for it!.. I and my friends would really like to thank you for the help you gave us.! Thanks Again.. if one day you should decide to come to Malta or better Gozo (our island) we would certainly take care of you! Consider it! Jeffrey (Malta).

Our one week stay in Krakow was a great experience. It was the first time any of us had been to Poland, so naturally when we arrived at the airport we were all wondering about what kind of challenges were ahead of us. We had booked accommodation with Pawel, who had offered to pick us up from the airport, and as soon as we stepped out of the airport he was there as promised. Once we arrived at the apartment, Pawel spent around an hour with us. He showed us around the flat and gave us some important tips about places to eat, bars, places of interest and information regarding buses/trams and taxis - thanks to Pawel?s impressive command of English, everything was very smooth and pleasant. The apartment is very sweet and as according to what is shown on the website. It is well equipped with all kitchen facilities, central heating and a washing machine, stereo. The location is good - it is situated a short walk away from the old town center, and 5 minutes away from a tram/bus stop. Once there it is very easy to orientate yourself, and if there was any problem, Pawel was always happy to help us. There is also a 24-hour grocery store two doors away from the flat which was quite convenient. The area was also very safe and we did not come across any problems. We would recommend this flat to any group/family wanting to visit Krakow as it provides a cheaper alternative as to hotels while still being in the best comfort. We would all like to thank Pawel and his wife for all their help and most of all for making us feel welcome. Regards, Alex

Canada Reviews
Hi Pawel, I just wanted to let you know how much the four of us enjoyed staying in your Krakow apartment this past September. We were thrilled to find such spacious, well-equipped accommodation located within walking distance of the town square. And you have no idea how badly we needed to use that washing machine! However, the best part was meeting you and your delightful family when we received/returned the keys. You provided so much helpful sightseeing and dining information plus, in all our time in Poland, we never met anyone else who spoke English as well as you! If I'm ever back in Krakow, there's no question that I'd book your apartment again. Regards, Elisabeth Villeneuve

Hi Pawel,We arrived home safe and sound without a hitch. It was a very successful trip all around from Poznan to Warsaw and then to Krakow. We were lucky to have one day in Berlin and a few days in England as well. All in all very enjoyable. Pawel, I would like to thank you for the use of your lovely home. You made us very welcome and helped us a lot in pointing out what to see and to look for. Your home is lovely and we felt like we were in a "home away from home"!I will send the few pictures I took of you and your family when I get them developed. I'm sure not as good as yours! Please give my best wishes to your wife and your darling little boy and of course yourself. Best regards, Pat Eveleigh

USA Reviews
Pawel and his family were extremely helpful regarding information about Krakow and the surrounding areas: from tips on the hottest nightlife spots to the right taxi to take from the airport and the train station (including telephone numbers for transportation with English speaking operators). In addition, he let us know about several current events, such as festivals and the like, in and around Krakow. The apartment itself is extremely modern; the kitchen is well-equipped and there is plenty of space for a group of people (we were four, but it is large enough for eight) to enjoy it in comfort. Another plus is its location: just twenty minutes' walk from the old city center. We fully enjoyed our stay in Krakow and plan to return sometime in the future. When we do, we will definitely be sure to contact Pawel again. Shane Lusher

Hello, Pawel. I am one of Barbara's friends who stayed in your lovely apartment last month, and I am happy to provide a review as we had a wonderful time in Krakow. For my first visit to Poland, I appreciated that the apartment was both a reasonable cab ride from the airport, and a safe and pleasant walk to Rynek Glowny as well as the train and bus stations. All four of us were comfortable in the spacious apartment (sleeping in three different rooms), and it was so nice to be able to plan our day over breakfast and coffee in our pajamas. Since the weather was so warm, we were also happy to have use of the washing machine! When taking a taxi, I would advise any future visitors who do not speak Polish to write down the address of the apartment for their driver - even if they think they are pronouncing it correctly! Renting your apartment was a relaxed and wonderful way to experience Krakow, and I thank you so much for all of your help in planning our stay.
