Casa Marta
Farmhouse in Tuscany, Italy
Property Details of Tuscany Farmhouse
It is an 18th-century,fully restored, stone building with three floors spanning roughly 325 square feet each. On the ground floor there is one bedroom, with a queen-size bed. The bedroom has one window and French doors. There is also a bathroom (toilet, sink and bidet) and a laundry room (washing machine and storage space for suitcases, etc.). The main entrance is on the second floor, where you will find a kitchen and living room in an open floor plan, and a bathroom complete with shower, plus a pantry (boiler, brooms, etc.). The master bedroom, spanning nearly 325 square feet with four windows, hardwood floors and wood beamed ceilings is on the top floor. It has two double beds, closets, a satellite television, CD player, and so on. This room is not only ideal for sleeping, but also serves as the perfect playroom for small children. In short, the house is made up of: 1 kitchen/living room + 2 bedrooms + 1 full bathroom + 1 powder room + 2 pantries. The house does not have a lawn, but there is space just outside the French doors leading out from the downstairs bedroom for a small table, sunshade and chairs. There are two entrances, the front door which takes you into the kitchen/pantry and the back door which leads to the downstairs bedroom, as the house is nestled on a hill, with three floors on one side and two on the other. The house is fully furnished with all new or antique pieces. The kitchen is equipped with all the essential amenities: dishwasher, washing machine (in the pantry), gas stove with five cook tops, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, etc.). The furniture (except for a wardrobe) is all new or antique (Tuscan pieces from the 19th century). We have provided a television, radio and CD player. Unfortunately, we have not yet installed a telephone (there is a public phone in town if you dont have a cell phone), and phone, computer and internet access are available at our office. We have also installed a central heating system (gas), and, naturally, a working fireplace adorns the second floor as what mountain house would be complete without one! Another house of the same owner (Casa O, see this listing) suitable for 5 persons is available 50 meters far from Casa Marta.
Local Area DetailsThe house is nestled in a small mountain town called Pascoso, in the Apuane Park, 2,231 feet above sea level. Pascoso, in the Tuscan province of Lucca, has just under 100 inhabitants and is so small, with such narrow stone roads, that cars enter town along a short strip of the main road only. Nearly all the houses in town are built in stone, including their rooftops, and the smooth stones of the streets were laid hundreds of years ago. Pascoso is a hikers's paradise; however, it is not far from the 'cities of arts' of Tuscany: Lucca, Pisa, Florence and Siena are 15, 30, 60, and 95 miles far; moreover, Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, among the most famous Italian beaches, are 30 miles far, including 15 on the highway.Furthermore, the house is situated under an hour drive from many of Italy’s finest and most picturesque golf courses, such as Golf Alisea - 32km -30 mins (5 holes promotional golf course), Montecatini Golf Club - 37 km -35 mins (18 hole golf course of natural beauty that has been built in the hilly countryside.Golfers are faced with many natural hazards such as lakes, streams, forests, and ditches which are all formed from the natural contours of the land), Club Golf Montelupo - 40 km -40 mins, Tirrenia Golf Club (9 hole), Cosmopolitan Golf & Country Club (18 hole) and Golf Club Fontevivo (18 hole),and others.
Traffic is almost unheard in Pascoso. There are no attractions of mass tourism. However, you will find all the essential services provided by the town's store, which is run by a local family and sells everything to meet your daily needs, from fruits and vegetables, meat and bread to laundry detergent.
Next door to the store, the family runs an old style trattoria welcoming in its genuine Tuscan hospitality, you'll feel like a guest in their home. The decor, complete with wooden benches, checkered tablecloths, and flasks of Tuscan wine on each table, adds to its charm. The dishes served are exclusively those typical of the region-wild game, delicious homemade pasta, Tuscan wines and cheeses and last, but certainly not least, homemade cakes and pies.
By car, you can also reach more refined, fine dining restaurants in the surrounding area. There is a post office open all year round and, just a few kilometers from Pascoso, there are towns with more stores.
For reaching Pascoso, you must before arrive to Lucca. If you arrive from North Italy (Milan) or from South Italy (Rome) you reach Florence (direction South and North, respectively) and then (at Florence North) you take ( without leaving the motorway from Milan to Rome) the MOTORWAY to PISA NORTH (in Italian language : Pisa Nord). After approximately 50 kilometres (35-40 miles) you reach LUCCA, and you go out of the motorway (either exit Lucca west [LUCCA OVEST] or Lucca East [LUCCA EST] are OK). At Lucca you must take the state road 12 (SS 12) directions ABETONE/GARFAGNANA (there are several road signs, also at the exits of motorway). You reach PONTE A MORIANO (5-6 Km from Lucca) and you turn left always following the direction Abetone/Garfagnana. You find four (4) tunnels, and approximately 1 miles after the fourth tunnel, you must turn right (direction BORGO A MOZZANO). After approximately 2 miles, we will reach DIECIMO (5 minutes of driving), and 200 meters after the road signal "Diecimo" (placed on the right hand of the road) you find before a Tamoil gasoline pump (on the left side of the road) and then, after another 100 meters, you must turn left (direction on the road signal: "PESCAGLIA"). There is only one asphalt road: you reach before Pescaglia (8-10 km from Diecimo) and then Pascoso (6-7 km from Pescaglia). ESTIMATED TIME FOR REACHING PASCOSO FROM LUCCA : 45-60 minutes.
