Mas le Clos du Prieur is a lovely restored 200 year old farmhouse and is situated in the heart of the Provence, close to the small town of St. Remy.

At the foot of the Alpilles, surrounded by mature trees, that have resisted the mistral for decades, the estate offers many shady and calm places. A 200 years old plane tree is the heart of the extensive garden. Whether you have breakfast in the shadow of the trees, enjoy the sun in the deck chair close to the swimming pool or finish the day in sociable round the Barbeque, the ease and the idyll of this place can lead into the idleness.

Mas le Clos du Prieur
offers four generous, individually shaped apartments. All are equipped with kitchen, incl. refrigerator, gas stove, sink etc, and have a spacious bathroom with shower. All provide satellite-TV (Astra) and a direct access to the garden of the house. Garden furniture and a BBQ are at your disposal. In colder seasons, a central gas heating system provides cosy residential-comfort.
You sleep in Queen size double beds, according to apartment on a gallery or in separate bedrooms. Extra beds, cots and high chairs for children are available. The parking place is on the property and is secured with a remote controlled gate.

Local Area Details

St. Remy

The small town is only 10 minutes away from Mas le Clos du Prieur and invites you to stroll along its picturesque markets, the small alleys, street cafes, restaurants and numerous shops. Provencal honey, soap and wine can be bought here. In the old part of the small town you will find a lot of art galleries, antique shops and old villas of the 15th and 16th century.
Les Baux

The mountain-village " Les Baux " is one of the most spectacular defence-villages of Provence and was once home to the aristocratic family Balcio. It offers a marvellous view over the boundless wide plains of the great "Crau" and was one of the noblest royal courts in the Middle Ages, centre of a brilliant and highly developed courtly culture. In 1150 Etienne des Baux, the educated wife of Raymond I the Baux, founded the "cours d'Amours", the first feminist group of regulars in history. Minstrels, Troubadoure, and famous knights were invited to take part in song and poetry competitions.




Avignon

The antique "Avenius" is the town of the river and the wind and was founded in the 2nd century before Christ. After a decade of destruction it flourished to one of the most cultivated and most attractive cities of the region. The reason was the transfer of the residence of the pope from Rome to Avignon during the 14th century. The prime time of Avignon started and the city was lodging seven French popes during 1309 and 1377. Take time for a visit of the impressive palace of popes! Avignon is still a centre for cultural events and is venue of the well-known "Festival d'Avignon" every year in July.
Camargue

At the northern edge of the Camargue you will find Arles, a classical Provencal town. Various magnificent buildings are reminding us of its glorious Roman past with the arena being the most impressive one. The Camargue is the country of white horses, flamingos and black bulls. The swamp belongs to a national park and stands under protection. Its an important habitat for rare birds. A visit of the town "Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer" during the annual pilgrimage of the gypsies is a must.
Luberon..

known for its extended lavender-fields and steep into rock-walls ducked villages the Luberon offers a grand scenery for nature-lovers. Particularly in the months of June until August at the time of the lavender-bloom, above all the northern Luberon changes into an oasis full of colors and odors. Especially beautiful places are Gordes, Bonnieux, Cucuron, Menerbes...

Aix-en-Provence

is regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in France and is the capitalcity of the Provence. Numerous small places, in the shade of majestic plane trees, mostly connected through a tangle of small alleys, gives the city its unique flair. Aix is a university city with a multiplicity at cultural events.
The Ardeche

the `capricious river is one of the most impressive natural sights in Southern France Since 1993 it is nature-memorial and strictly protected. In the upper part, the Ardeche flows in many meanders with strong inclination. In the lower reaches, the river has cleared itself a way through the limestone-layers of a plateau. The erosion-forms are of breathtaking beauty.
