Enjoy a true northern Ontario cottage vacation on Rainy Lake, Ontario. Our drive to cottage features a wonderful location right on Rainy Lake, about 17 km east of Fort Frances, Ontario and only about 25 km from the International Falls, Minnesota airport. Tall majestic white pines surround our cottage to cool off those hot summer days. There is lots of docking space for those who want to bring boats, kayaks or canoes. The fishing is superlative including bass, northern, walleye and croppie. You can fish off the end of the dock and probably catch a small mouth bass. For kayak and boating enthusiasts the lake is dotted with wonderful islands for exploring and swimming. Sandpoint Island is nearby and has a wonderful sand beach. Our cottage does not have a lot of beach area and I honestly find that children over the age of 4 much prefer jumping in and out of the fresh water about a million times a day with or without life jackets! There is a floating dock with easy ladder access for all ages of swimmers. Rainy Lake is a jewel - a large Ontario lake and very private, clean, clear fresh water and privacy. If you see 5 boats passing by in a day then it is a busy day on the lake. The cottage is right on the lake, and you can enjoy a morning dip in the lake, a midnight swim, or a hot shower if you prefer as we have hot and cold running water and a septic system. One of the docks is ideal for enjoying a morning coffee and you can watch the loons and mallard families swim by or a beaver and otter lolling in the lake. Pelicans will fly by or gently float in the fresh waters of Rainy Lake. You will probably be visited by an occasional family of deer. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped. You can visit www.cottagesincanada.com for a glimpse at additional digital photos. The kitchen is large with a full size fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Bedroom one has two double beds and a dresser/closet and bedroom two has a queen size bed and twin bed and dresser. There is also a single daybed in the front porch area and another single daybed in the living room. There is a woodstove in the living room to take off the chill of early May and June. From late June through August we enjoy very warm summers and it is unlikely you will need to use the woodstove. This cottage is ideal for families with children. We don't mind dogs, but sorry, not cats - the owner is allergic and we find guests are often allergic to cats. We provide a large propane BBQ, dishes, cutlery, all linens including very good quality towels, bedding, blankets, tea towels and wash cloths. There is satellite tv, a vcr and we have stocked the cottage with puzzles and board games - no Ontario summer vacation is complete without late night games of scrabble or monopoly! The south facing deck will give you lots of sunshine for tanning and R&R, there are lots of deck chairs and the rope hammock is nestled between two large pines on the lakeshore. Just bring your groceries, sunscreen, a couple of good books and leave your laptop at the office. (We do not provide phone service but cell phones work fine). For our US guests you can fly or drive to Minneapolis then either fly or drive to International Falls, Mn. and we are right on the US(Minnesota) and Canadian (Ontario) Border. Fort Frances is home to the International Bass Fishing Tournament each year and this cottage is an ideal home away from home for fishing, watersports and a true Ontario cottage country vacation. We are located 360 km north of Thunder Bay, 365 km east of Winnipeg, Manitoba and 450 km north of Minneapolis Minnesota.
