Local Area Details

Almunecar is mainly a tourist resort for the well-to-do Spanish from Madrid and Granada. Few package tourists from Europe reach this village. As a result the inhabitants don't speak foreign languages as a rule but the lifestyle is totally Spanish contrary to other towns closer to Malaga, such as Nerja. Almunecar is 45 minutes away by car from beautiful Granada and its Alhambra (probably the most beautiful Moorish palace left in the world) and the stunning Alpujaras region (read Chris Stewart's book "driving over lemons") where you can make fantastic hikes in the Sierra Nevada.
