The Haytor Hotel United Kingdom
Guest House in England, United Kingdom
Property Details of England Guest House
The Haytor Hotel is an elegant Victorian country house style hotel set in mature gardens. It is ideally situated on a quiet road only 300 metres from Torquay?s lively harbouside and the main shopping area. In the other direction, a short walk takes you to the beautiful award-winning Meadfoot Beach and along coastal paths with stunning views across Torbay. With ample parking in the level car park, you can leave your car behind and explore Torquay at your leisure. The hotel aims to provide stylish, clean and comfortable accommodation. Ample full English or room service Continental breakfasts are included. The hotel does not have facilities to cater for children under twelve or pets.
Local Area DetailsTorquay is the capital of the English Riviera. It is a unique place where stunning coastal scenery meets twenty first century living. And the Haytor Hotel is exactly where they meet. Turn left out of the Haytor and quiet, leafy Meadfoot Road quickly leads you into Torwood Street where restaurants serving cuisines from around the world jostle for your attention with art galleries and gift shops.
Then at the end of the street you arrive at Torquay harbour.
If it's daylight you may well be drawn into one of the harbour-side department stores for a while before heading up Fleet Walk to browse its many independent shops.
But, if nature is calling, you may decide instead to stroll past the harbour cafes and the yachts in the marina towards the wide sands which front historic Torre Abbey and its gardens. An ice cream as a reward perhaps, before returning to the harbour via the cliff path known as Rock Walk, stopping now and then to admire the views across Torbay. But if it's night-time, your thoughts may revolve around food. The harbour has its own collection of restaurants, most (but not all) with a more traditional feel. Eating Fish & Chips out of newspaper while watching the Sun set over the Princess Theatre is one memory most people take home with them from Torquay!
And if you're a bit of a social animal it may be the pubs and bars which attract you to Torquay. Whether it's a sophisticated harbour-side bar or an old-fashioned pub up a cobbled alleyway, the Haytor Hotel is only a few minutes walk from both.
Turn right out of the Haytor and within a few minutes the road sweeps you down into Meadfoot Bay, the blue of the sea contrasting with the cream Regency walls of Hesketh Crescent on your left. Meadfoot Beach's sands and rock pools are cleaned twice a day by the tides and this has helped it earn it's coveted Blue Flag award. Yet when other Torquay beaches are starting to get busy, Meadfoot offers its visitors space and tranquillity as well as beauty.
But if Meadfoot is not your final destination, you must once more make a choice.
Right up the steps to Daddyhole Plain, a village green which tumbles down dramatic cliffs into the sea. And then along the Rock End Walk, back towards Torquay harbour via Beacon Cove and the new 'Living Coasts' marine life attraction which opened in 2003.
Or Left along Meadfoot Beach towards the Ilsham Valley, Thatcher Point and Hope's Nose before heading back through Lincombe Woods and Manor Gardens and their views over the bay.
