For children there is an adventure playground with swings, a slide, etc and woods to 'explore' and build 'dens'

This is a central location with all sorts within an hour by car.
Hadrians Wall (location for Kevin Costner's Robin Hood, Ashgill Force (a waterfall you can walk behind), Beamish (huge open air museum), Lead mines at Nenthead and Killhope (underground tours), Ostrich World, Settle to Carlisle Railway (very picturesque) to name but a few!
