Property Details of Scotland Apartment

Situated directly on Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile, this is a centrally located, fully furnished 2 bedroom self-catering apartment with spectacular views of some of Edinburgh's most famous landmarks (the view of Calton Hill above is from the balcony). We are within easy walking distance of all the main attractions, the train station, and the airport shuttle bus terminus.

The apartment block was designed by architects Spence, Glover & Ferguson.
Sir Basil Spence, the senior partner of the practice, was arguably the most famous British architect of his generation. His most celebrated building is Coventry Cathedral.
Unusually for a property in the Old Town, the apartment also has a private balcony with uninterrupted views of the classical landscape of Calton Hill (pictured above from the living room). Colloquially known as the 'Athens of the North', most of the structures were built during the Enlightenment period in Edinburgh during the 19th century. Dominated by the National Monument, based on the Parthenon (and never completed), other famous buildings include the old Royal High School (based on the Acropolis) and the Burns Monument, erected in memory of the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. To the left is Nelson's Monument (shaped like an upturned telescope) and, below that, St Andrew's House - the home of the Scottish Executive, and one of the most celebrated Art Deco buildings in Britain.
The accommodation is ideal for four people, but arrangements can be made on request for sleeping an additional guest on a chair-bed in the living room. Please note that there is an extra charge if this option is requested (please click on 'rates' for further details).

All linen and towels are provided, and for lets of more than a week there is a cleaning service on request which includes fresh supplies of both. The apartment has full central heating, also included in the price.

Local Area Details

The flat is centrally located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town on Canongate. This historic street forms part of The Royal Mile, the backbone of the city's medieval core. Winding closes, cobbled alleyways, and ancient buildings - many of which are reputed to be haunted (ours is one of the exceptions, probably because it is more recently built) - create an atmosphere quite unlike any other city in Europe. Much of The Royal Mile dates back to the Dark Ages, an area of intense and brooding character dominated by Edinburgh Castle at one end and Holyrood Palace at the other. Canongate is located roughly two-thirds of the way down, west to east.
In more practical terms, we are ideally located for the majority of Edinburgh's most popular attractions and amenities. The Castle is less than ten minutes by foot, Holyrood (and the new Scottish Parliament) about three minutes. The ancient spires of the Palace are visible from the second bedroom. Waverley Railway Station is less than ten minutes' walk away. Princes Street, the city's principal shopping thoroughfare, is just beyond the station, and just beyond that is the New Town - the world's greatest showpiece of Georgian architecture.
There are excellent shopping and dining facilities on the flat's doorstep, with equally impressive alternatives on the nearby North and South Bridges. The Museum of Edinburgh is within 100 metres of our front door, and The Royal Mile's oldest building - John Knox House - just a little further.
