A very warm welcome awaits you at this beautifully restored 18th Century traditional Charentaise Logis, set in 2 acres of landscaped gardens, with raquet sports, common games room and swimming pool complex.

The history
Logis de Lussais was built in the mid 18th Century as a Manor house with private vineyard, and later became a working farm. It has since been sympathetically restored and now comprises a detached Owners period farmhouse and four separate traditional self catering stone cottages cottages for rent as a whole or individually.

The Logis is approached along a private chestnut tree lined avenue, offering ample shaded parking, through grand entrance gates into a pretty fountained courtyard. The farmhouse and cottages are around the main courtyard and each have their own private gardens.

The facilities
The cottages share a fenced 10 x 5m heated heated swimming pool. The owners, or their guests staying in the farmhouse, have the private use of a second fenced 8 x 4m heated pool. Both swimming pools overlook the south facing communal gardens where there is croquet, boule, badminton, short tennis, swings and sandpit. In the Grange, an open barn, there is a common games room with table tennis, pool table, air hockey and bar football. The accomodation
La Chataigne, the owners farmhouse, is the largest house on the Logis estate and was built in the Maison de Maitre style. This fabulous spacious farmhouse has many original features including flagstones, log fires and polished wooden floors. The main entrance leads into a large hallway with a sweeping staircase to the upper floor.

On the ground floor there is a large comfortably furnished sitting room with TV/VCR/DVD ( including digital English channels ) a formal dining room with ample seating, a well equipped kitchen / open plan breakfast room featuring a range style cooker and dishwaher and separate laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.There is a douwnstairs toilet and back door leading onto the private rear garden and to the heated swimming pool.

Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms, two with ensuite facilities and a large family bathroom with a bath and separate showercubicle, toilet and wash basin. Two of the bedrooms each have a double bed with ensuite shower, toilet and wash basin. A third bedroom has a double bed and two single beds. The fourth bedroom has 2 single beds and bunkbeds.

The locality
The logis is situated in the Boutonne valley, on the edge of a quaint village near the River Boutonne, yet conveniently near to the charming market town of Chef-Boutonne where there are 2 supermarkets and a small number of shops bars and restaurants.

The surrounding countryside of woodlands and forests are ideal for walking and cycling where you will find an abundance of wildlife. The fairytale Chateau Javarzay on the edge of the town has a park and lake just perfect for a picnic or fishing. The Chateau is floodlit at night making a spectacular sight, often the focal point for village events and entertainment.

The source of the River Boutonne to which the town lends it's name lies deep beneath the church of Notre Dame in the ramparts of the castle in the old town. The nearest Boulangerie to buy fresh bread is just a few minutes in the car, s short cycle ride, or a pleasant 20 min walk along a country lane beside the river. The nearest restaurant at Des Canards with a poolside eating terrace is a 10 min stroll from the bottom the garden and at La Herroniere on the edge of Chef-Boutonne there is a lakeside Terrace Bar& Grill.

There are local possibilities for fishing, horse riding and tennis.

Getting here
Fly to La Rochelle (1.5 hrs drive to the Logis) or Poitiers and Angouleme (1hr drive)and hire a car.
Flights are available with Ryanair from Stansted and Dublin airports.
Other international flights are available into Paris, Nantes or Bordeaux with the option of taking the fast train to Poitiers or hiring a car.
Travel by rail on the TGV network from London to Paris to Poitiers ( 50 mins drive to the Logis )
Take your car through the Channel Tunnel or go by ferry or hovercraft from mainland UK and Ireland to various seaports on the West Coast of France. Only 4hrs drive from St.Malo, 5hrs from Caan, Roscoff or Cherbourg, 7hrs from Calais.
Ferry crossings also available from Rosythe to Zeebrugge in Belgium. Drive time over the border and through France about 6 hours.

Local Area Details

The Logis is located in the centre of the Poitou-Charentes, famous for its cognac, pineau, oysters, mussles and goats cheeses, within easy reach of the sandy beaches at Fouras, La Rochelle and Royan and the lovely islands of Oleron, Aix and Re, some of which are suitable for surfing and water sports.

The theme park 'Futuroscope' at Poitiers is an enjoyable dayout for all the family.The 'Mariais Poitevin' ( the Green Venice )is a marshland area of great beauty with a labyrinth of waterways linking quaint villages through wetland forests where you can go canoeing or punting .

There are various other locations for canoeing, kayaking and dinghy sailing on sheltered lakes and along the River Charente and a variety of zoos, leisure parks and other attractions to entertain the family.

Medieval towns like Chauvigny, Confolens overlooking the converging rivers of the Charente and Vienne, St.Jean d'Angely with cobbled streets and gothic towers and fine cities like Cognac, the Spa town of Rochefort and walled cathedral city of Angouleme are just some of the many historical places of interest to visit for the day or simply to shop and take a liesurely lunch.

With it's wonderful warm and sunny climate, sunflower fields and vinegrowing countryside, the Logis is ideally placed for visiting the many family attractions, historical buildings and Chateaux throughout the region.

There is something for everyone to enjoy a memorable holiday whether simply relaxing in the pleasurable surroundings of Logis de Lussais or taking advantage of the surrounding countryside and many sights and places of interest this lovely region of France has to offer.
