Property Details of Scotland Cottage
Ataireachd Ard faces the sea at the mouth of the fishing river Brora. All main windows have sea views-see above photo-very distracting at times! The cottage has central heating (night storage), 2 coal fires and a modern kitchen with the usual facilities, microwave, tumble drier, washing machine, dishwasher etc. There is an enclosed garden to the rear and an open garden at the front overlooking the river mouth and sea. The harbour area itself is very pretty and only a few minutes walk as are the shops, restaurants, hotels etc. Brora golf course is an 18 hole links course laid out by James Baird. There are several beaches and regular visits from seals and sea birds to the shore below the front garden.
Local Area DetailsThere are 9 golf courses within easy reach including the famous Dornoch course. The Brora River and loch have excellent fishing. The beaches are clean and varied with many beautiful coastal walks and woodland walks. The cottage is within easy reach of Inverness(1 hour), Dornoch with its cathedral, The Flow country and north coast with connections to Orkney and the beautiful, more lonely west coat. An excellent centre in a beautiful relaxing environment.
Additional InformationAbout TransportBrora is on the A9 the main road north and has a railway station. The cottage is an easy walk from both.
About BeachesTo the north of the river are miles of sandy beaches alongside the golf course. Opposite the cottage is the start of the coastal walk south to Golspie. The beaches here are varied - a great place for sea birds and seals.
About GolfingBrora golf course is within site of the cottage windows and is an 18 hole links course laid out by James Braid who laid out Gleneagles. There is also a little 9 hole free course among the dunes just along from the cottage and 7 others in the local area including the famous Royal Dornoch.
About FishingBrora and Helmsdale Rivers and Brora Loch.
About Scenery/Beauty SpotsSpectacular. Mountains, moorland, beaches, castles, harbours, woodlands ....
About WalkingAll levels. Brora is fairly level and the cottage on the flat so there is easy walking. However for more adventurous there are beautiful coastal walks from the cottage itself, woodland walks aroung Golspie and Loch Fleet, and farther west moorland and mountain walks.
About HistoryThe area is full of sites of historical interest - brochs, clearance villages, Dornoch Cathedral and Dunrobin Castle to name a few.
