The Beach

Choengmon Beach is peaceful, romantic and clean, making it a delightful escape from the wearisome hustle and bustle of daily life. As it is not the at the center of any village or community, this tranquil and calm beach is the prefered spot for couples or families seeking peace and privacy. The sparkling, azure waters of Choengmon Bay are also relatively shallow, allowing kids of all ages to enjoy the waters in safety.

Choengmon Beach lies on the North East coast of Koh Samui, near Big Buddha Beach and around 4 kilometers north of Chaweng.


The Town

6 km South of Choengmon, Chaweng is the center of activities and nightlife on the island. A choice of restaurants, a great beach, some interesting shops, and a the best nightlife in Samui. During the day, life revolves around the beach. You can relax, walk to the nearest offshore island at low tide, go canoeing, go sailing, have a Thai massage or a pedicure, eat a wonderful lunch overlooking the beach, or simply snack on your beach mat with some fried chicken. It's relaxing and friendly, which attracts families, singles and couples year after year.

Although rapidly developing with the old rustic charm of a few years ago replaced with McDonalds, Boots (the Chemists) Starbucks and the like, Chaweng still retains its local flavour. Lots of excellent restaurants, small shops to browse, and of course, seven kilometres of white sand beach.


Sport opportunities

Diving
Are you keen on water sport and on scuba diving? The Gulf of Thailand is a great place to try diving, get certified or sample some of its great reefs on half or one day dive trips. If you have never dived before you can do an international PADI diving license in only four days. With a PADI diving lincense you can then go diving all over the world. For the certified diver, you will find the operators on Koh Samui offering a choice between trips to the National Marine Park, Sail Rocks and Koh Tao. These are day trips with travel times between one and three hours by boat.
The National Marine Park is a beautiful archipelago, with the best diving and clearest water offered by the island to the far north called Koh Wao and Hin Nippon yai and Lek. Further north, Sail Rock is the best-known site in the Gulf, offering a wall dive on the rock, while Koh Tao offers a choice of over 20 dive sites for all experience levels.

The location also benefits from a shallow sandy bay, which is perfect for beginners. November to March when the north easterly to easterly wind blows between 8 to 20 knots is probably the best time to go.

Sailing and Windsurfing
Thanks largely to the success of the third annual Koh Samui Regatta, sailing in Koh Samui is becoming increasingly popular. The island has excellent weather conditions for sailing - a good all-year round breeze that is a solid northeasterly between December and April, and a more challenging strong westerly with the occasional violent gust between May and November. Craft available for a day on the ocean waves include yachts, catamarans and more modest windsurf boards.
