Property Details of Tuscany Apartment
Our eight spacious apartments are located where a little settlement once stood in the 19th century. The restoration of the set of buildings has been carried out with the uttermost respect for the original architectural features. The Borgo included a manor surrounded by a group of smaller farmhouses where the products of the land, such as oil, grapes, and wheat were collected and processed.
Original building materials have been cleverly restored and reused thus combining the typical atmosphere of a traditional agricultural settlement with state-of-the-art facilities suited to the needs of our times.
Borgo Il Melone dates back to the beginning of the 19th century when it was a property of the Mancinis, a noble family from Cortona who still owns the entire set of buildings. The Mancini family boasts a wide family tree that includes Girolamo Mancini, scholar, man of letters and patriot who followed Garibaldi in 1860 and 1866.
He is the author of memorable biographies, such as "Life of Luca Signorelli", "Life of Lorenzo Valla", "Life of L.B. Alberti", and of dissertations such as "Cortona in the Middle Ages" and "Writes and Codices from Cortona".
He was Gonfalonier in Cortona; he was elected Member of the Parliament twice, and was Librarian and Lucumon of the Etruscan Academy. In 1881 he founded the bank 'Banca Popolare Cortona'.
A warm, lively, and unique light spreads throughout a landscape of gentle green hills.
An ancient settlement surrounded by a huge park full of flowers. A private chapel, on a magical site, that will be all yours on the most beautiful day of your life.
A place to come back to, anniversary after anniversary. A corner where to keep your most precious memories and spend time with your loved ones.
Local Area DetailsAn encounter with Cortona is an encounter with art, with history and with spirituality. Getting to know this timeless city is a real rediscovery of our past. Cortona offers testimony to its history as well as an enchanting view of the landscape enclosed by Lake Trasimeno and the Appenines.
The halls of the Diocesan Museum, in the Piazza Duomo of Cortona, host an important collection of paintings by Luca Signorelli (1455-1523), among which the most famous are the Deposition (1517) and Communion of the Apostles (1512).
The hall that once was the Baptistery of 'Chiesa del Gesù' is now the home of two canvases by Beato Angelico: the Annunciation and a Madonna with Child and Four Saints, both painted for the church 'Chiesa di San Domenico'.
These two works of art and a fresco, painted by the artist for the half-moon section above the entrance door to the church, were completed between 1434 and 1438, a few years after the painting of 'Saint John', while Beato Angelico was staying in the Dominican Friary of Cortona (the painter lived there until 1438).
This year Cortonantiquaria celebrates the 43rd edition of its antique exhibition, the oldest in Italy.
It is one of the most relevant events for the trade of antiques and its extraordinarily long tradition makes it one of the most prestigious antique fairs throughout Europe.
More than 40 of the most renowned antique dealers of Italy display furniture, carpets, weapons, sculptures, engravings, paintings and other antique works of art.
The exhibition takes place in the charming halls of Palazzo Casali and Palazzo Cagnotti in Cortona.
The area stretching from Valdichiana to the Casentino area until the town of Cortona is the location of the "Terre di Arezzo" wine route, which is over 125 miles long.
This area has always been characterized by a large production of different types of wines, many of which receive 'DOC', 'DOCG' and 'IGT' certifications every year.
Among the grapevines that are picked and distilled in this area are: Chianti, Chianti colli aretini, Colli Etruria Centrale, Valdichiana, Cortona and Vinsanto del Chianti.
Red, white and dessert wines are produced and bottled in the wine territories around Arezzo. They are mostly noble wines, with a medium alcoholic content, and can be drunk young or preserved in time.
