The entrance to our Gite/B & B guest suite is approached through a gravelled terrace edged with shrubs which looks out over a large garden and small lake. Table, chairs and sun-loungers are provided. You have the use of a 4.5m x 1.2m deep splash pool, excellent for cooling down on hot summer days.
The spacious accommodation comprises of family bedroom with tiled floor, a double bed, set of bunks, wardrobe, 2 chests of drawers and spacious en-suite shower room. A spacious sitting room with tiled floor, lounge-suite, fireplace with log burner, English and French TV, video, hi-fi system, cupboard with games, selection of reading material and videocassettes, kitchen/dining area, with refrigerator, oven, microwave, table and chairs. Use of washing machine and tumble drier on request.Lake Trails Holidays have a 2 Keys rating with 'Clevacances' for B & B and included in our prices are breakfasts, his and hers dressing gowns and hair drier. Evening meals are optional upon request.

Local Area Details

Within minutes of La Roffie there is the beauty of Lake Mas Chaban, and the beaches of the Lake Lavaud.(Click for images of the Lake) where there are a variety of activities, with something to suit everyone, including an Ornithology Observatoire, mini golf, pedaloes, canoes, wind surfing, cycling & walking trails, quiet picnic areas, a lakeside restaurant and safe bathing, supervised during July and August (Availability and activities vary according to season).


The Charente region is famous the world over for its Cognac and Pineau, and it is also noted for its pleasant sunny climate, Romanesque heritage, historical buildings and châteaux.

In Cognac many people enjoy visiting the major distilleries for a tour and tasting. Martell, the oldest and most famous Cognac House (Open Mar - Oct), Courvoisier, Hennessy, Otard & Camus all provide wonderful experiences. The Remy Martin Vineyards are also located in Cognac and are open from April to October for sampling and tours. For the enthusiast, fishing is excellent in the nearby rivers Charente, and Vienne and both lakes Mas Chaban and Lavaud for most of the year.

The River Charente is located nearby. The countryside of the Charente region is very rich and offers a number of quality and beautiful fishing sites. Fishing is practicable in most areas, and fish are particularly abundant in the Charente. There is excellent fishing in the Charente and day/seasonal fishing licences are available from local 'tabac' shops at a small cost. The River Charente - Fishing trout, pike, perch, big carp and whitefish are among the first class catches that the fishing enthusiast can pull out of the waters of the River Charente and its tributaries. The River Charente is a coastal river that winds along 360 kms from East to West. It is navigable for some 170 kms and has been a channel of communication from the very first moment that man settled along its banks.

The River Vienne - is very popular as a match fishing venue and several major championships have been staged on the river as in places it is absolutely stuffed with skimmer bream and 30lb catches are not unusual. There is also a very good head of chub which run to about 3lb, although there are rumours of chub running into double figures to be found in other areas. Carp are certainly present and catches recorded up to 52lb. Like a lot of the French rivers the potential of the Vienne has yet to be tapped.
The farmhouse is in a quiet hamlet called La Roffie, just outside the village of Lezignac-Durand in the Poitou Charentes region of S.W. France. It is situated between Suris and Lezignac on the D52 (Off the RN141), equidistant to the towns of Angouleme and Limoges.

In Lesignac-Durand and the near villages of Massingnac, Suris and La Peruse there are bars, restaurants, post offices, bread /cake and butchers shops. The nearest larger towns of Chabanais and Roumaziers-Loubert have more shops & supermarkets and regular SNCF rail services with links to all major cities.freshwater swimming pool nearby to us in Roumazieres- Loubert. It is a fully lined, clean bathing area surrounded by beach, grass and a natural lake where you can also pedalo, canoe and rowboat.
Angouleme is our nearest city and about 45 mins drive away. It has many sights worth seeing, including the beautiful city hall and gardens, an array of shops and boutiques and a number of beautiful ancient churches and cathedrals within short walking distances.

Poitiers is slightly further afield but offers the magnificent Futuroscope theme park, as shown on the photo, and many more shopping experiences.

Short travelling distances away are: the golf course at St Junien, Roman gallow ruins, a Roman fortified town, the ancient meteor landing site in La Rochechouart and many beautiful chateaus to which you may pay a visit, wander around the buildings and gardens, attend wine-tasting sessions and even have a luxury five-course meal!

At Lake Trails we have excellent bicycles for our clients to use, at a nominal fee to cover wear and tear (Added to the cost of your holiday). Price includes the use of safety helmet, puncture repair kit, anti-theft chain and map of local area showing the many trails accessable directly from the property. The nearest leisurely cycle is the 8 beautiful miles around the Lake Mas Chaban or for a longer cycle, 16.5 miles along the quiet roads and woodland trails to and around Lake Lavaud, shown here.
