Girona is a city situated in the northeast of Catalonia, Spain. The city is crossed by the river "Onyar", that separates the historic centre and the modern city. In 785 the city was handed to Carlomagno as part of Girona’s County. In the Middle Age the city showed a great prosperity, interrupted by plagues and wars. After a crisis at the end of the XVth century, it arrived a new period of growth, braked by subsequent warlike disturbances. During the XIX and XXth centuries, Girona entered in an industrialization process, without leaving behind the agricultural tradition and cattle raising.
