I SAVELLI farmhouse is located on a lovely hill, about 1km away from the small village of Gallina, near Castiglione Dorcia, right along the Cassia road.

The farmhouse,
built in the first decades of the 20th century, has been completely restored. The fields that surround the building are cultivated with cereals and thus change colour throughout the year. Among the grain fields there are huge meadows with poppies and several varieties of wild orchids and roses.

THE APARTMENTS

The farmhouse I SAVELLI, situated at the heart of Val Dorcia, has been completly restored.
Nevertheless, the structure of the old building has been mantained in order to preserve the old and unique atmosphere of the place.
Once the place where tuscan farmers used to live and work, the farmhouse can now comfortly welcome people coming from all over the world.
The original building has been divided into five independent apartments that have been decorated with antique furniture.
Terracotta floors, wooden ceilings, and hand stained walls give the visitor the taste of the original environment.
From the aromatic garden it is possible to enjoy a wonderful view of the landscape and its impressive colors: green during springtime, yellow in the summer.
During winter, the ground is characterized by the incredible ocher shades called "Crete di Siena".

Local Area Details

Walking through the paths nearby the farmhouse, it is easy to see the local fauna that populates the area: roebucks, hares, phaesants, porcupines, wild boars, and rare birds like blue rock trushes, stone curlews and woodchat shrikes.

I SAVELLI is also quite close to Monte Amiata, and it can be a good starting point to enjoy a cultural and eno-gastronomic tour that reach places worth a visit such as Pienza, Montepulciano, Monticchiello, Radicofani, Castiglione Dorcia, S.Quirico, Montalcino and Abbazia di S.Antimo. The farmhouse is located near important sites of interest such as the thermal baths of Bagno Vignoni, S. Filippo and Chianciano.

About History

Farmhouse - History The name of our farmhouse comes from the last name of a wellknown noble roman family, I Savelli. A little street called “Vicolo Savelli� is still located in the centre of Rome , close to Campo dei Fiori and Piazza Navona. During the Renaissance, the Savelli family struggled for power over Rome. Defeated, they were forced to leave Rome and seek refugee away from the papal state in the nearby Granducato of Tuscany. Since then and up to two generations ago the Savelli family lived here dedicating themselves to agriculture. The original building, recently restored, now houses the Agriturismo I SAVELLI.
