La Maison du Chameau is composed of 2 cottages: downstairs in the main cottage are the dining-room, the living-room, a kitchen with fireplace, glass ceramic stove, oven and a dish-washer and a large luxurious bathroom with a walk-in multi-jet spa shower and an antique roll-top bathtub. Upstairs are 2 large double bedrooms. The smaller cottage has a bedroom, a bathroom and a salon. The adjoining barn has a washing machine and a table tennis. The vaulted wine cellar contains wine for guests' consumption. The cottages are surrounded by a garden, a large South-facing terrace with deck-chairs and BBQ, as well as plenty of space and charm.

As is the case in all our cottages, all the floors are red tiled, the walls are whitewashed and there are oak beams all over.

Local Area Details

Summer Activities:
The Auvergne region is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with all it has to offer in terms of hiking, biking, tree-climbing, kayaking and swimming. Many of these activities (and some less strenuous) can be accomplished on the extinct volcanoes that the region is famous for. The brand new Vulcania is an educational centre devoted entirely to their study and well worth a visit, especially with children. The Golf des Volcans is reputed for its green with magnificent views of the craters and comes highly recommended.

During the summer months, there are markets and fairs in most villages and if you are interested in brocantes / antiques, there are always some bargains to be made. We are keen enthusiasts ourselves, so please do not hesitate to ask for good tips!

The cities of Vichy and Clermont-Ferrand are excellent shopping destinations and an ideal place to relax and enjoy the unique French way of life, by spending some hours in a cafe. Vichy even offers spa facilities for those in a pampering mood.

Last but definitely not least: food and wine! The Auvergne wines are excellent table wines, which you can sample in your very own wine cellar, stocked with local wines at cost price. The local fare is delicious and hearty, and more and more chefs are opening restaurants with a modern take on traditional Auvergne specialities. We are fortunate to have several very good restaurants in the vicinity and would be delighted to recommend some.

Winter Activities:
The Auvergne region has many winter activities to offer, in addition to some year-round activities. A few hours� drive away is a small family-friendly skiing resort, ideal for day- or weekend trips. The cultural life has a lot to offer as well, as both Vichy and Clermont-Ferrand host a series of festivals, opera concerts, classical music and jazz during the winter months.
