Flayosc Village
Flayosc is a typical provençal medieval village with its large shady square, its fountains, old church, rambling rooftops. It is the perfect location to relax and enjoy the beauty of Provence. It is far enough away from the busy tourist spots on the coast, but near enough to the local town of Draguignan with all its amenities. Flayosc is also a well serviced village in itself with a provençal market every Monday morning which has a great array of local produce. There are innumerable cafes where you can sit on the terrace, sip a glass of local wine and watch the world go by. The village can provide everything one needs: excellent shops for food, bakeries, butcher, grocery and fruit/veg shops, pharmacy, bank, several restaurants, laundry/drycleaners and wine cooperative. It also has a very good traiteur (delicatessen) who prepares excellent regional dishes, thus saving cooking at home. It is a village which is a pleasurable in the winter months as it is in the summer. The hustle and bustle continues year round, thanks to a very active local committee, there is lots of entertainment throughout the year including winter, such as antiques markets, concerts, fêtes, and fireworks.

Flayosc is just off the D555. Follow the signs to Flayosc which takes you off the the main road and straight on up the hill to the village centre. After a hundred meters you see at your right hand side a square with remnants of the old village walls and the church. Here you find the Office of the Tourist Information, which can provide you with detailed information on the region.

About History
Dolmens Dolmens are collective graves. The room(chamber) funeral, opened to the sleeping, of which remain here the paving stone of coverage (about 25 tons) and the supports were contained in a stony screed. The Abbey of Thoronet The final installation of, L'Abbaye du Thoronet, close to Lorgues, took place in 1160. It took nearly forty years complete the construction of Notre-Dame du Thoronett. It could then receive a score of monks and several tens of brothers convers, these laic living near the monks without to have entered the orders. Dante "Folauet, called me these people..." Dante quotes it in the Divine Comedy, paying homage to its talents of troubadour. Wire of merchant génois, Foulques had come to seek fortune in Marseilles before being devoted to poetry. In rupture with its past, it entered, in 1196, in the order of Cîteaux to become, in 1201, abbot of the abbey of Thoronet. Its election as bishop of Toulouse, in 1206, in the heart of the country cathare, falls under the logic of the pope Innocent III who, constantly, was based on the order of Cîteaux to try to extirpate the heresy. Until its death, December 25, 1231, and to the sides of other cistercians, like Pierre de Castelnau and Arnaud Amaury, but also of Domenica saint, Foulques was devoted, under difficult conditions, with this negotium pacis and fidei which was the Albigensian crisis. II was buried with the Cistercian abbey of Grandselve, close to Toulouse. About Parks
Gorges du Verdon. Running from Moustiers-Ste-Marie east to Castellane. The world’s 2nd largest gorge, approximately 20km long and plunging more than 300m in places. This immense and magnificent canyon straddles the departments of Var and the Alpes de Hautes Provence. The gigantic cliffs of calcareous rock are the result of the erosion of the Verdon river. The Gorge du Verdon is one of Europe’s great natural wonders; formed where the blue-green Verdon river cuts a deep swathe through the high limestone plateau of Haute Provence. Often called Europe's Grand Canyon , this truly spectacular canyon is over 25 kms long and in places over 1000 metres deep, and the great cliffs are a playground for rock climbers. We take an easier route, with daywalks following footpaths that take us along the rim and through the great canyon, as well as exploring the surrounding hillsides and villages.
About Walking
Walks in the local area There is a lovely walk following the little canal of water that comes from a source and flows down to the village to the Fountain. I ti about 4 Kilometers and takes about an hour and a quarter. Walk out of the village towards Salernes, Past the chemist and the post office. when you reach the main road, cross over, turning left. To the right of a little batch of letter boxes are some steps going down frm the road. this is the begining of the path that follows the canal of water that brings the water to the lavoirs and fountain in the vilage of Flayosc. The path eventually finishes at the source about an hour and a quarter from the village. Hiking trails just south of the village, between Flayosc and Lorgues, allow some loop hikes in the wooded hills around Le Peyrega and Les Lunettes, and past the hamlet of Sauve-Clare with its waterfall. The nearest trails to the north are in the mountains between Tourtour, Ampus and Chàteaudouble, about 10 km away. To the southwest, there are a number of hiking trails in the hills between Lorgues and Salernes. Waterfall at Sauve-Clare, Flayosc The waterfall is about 2 km south of the village on a pretty country lane through the fields and forests. The waterfall is small but beutiful and is near a huge tree next to the road. The water comes out over very mossy stones that have built up from deposits over thousands of years. There is a cave at the top, beside the falls, that goes back into the rocks and the ruins of a huge old mill are nearby, above the waterfall. The Gorges du Verdon should be counted as one of France's great walks because, although it is hard work, the panorama of the Haute Provence is just overwhelming and makes the effort worthwhile. The path, called Sentier Martel which leads onto the Sentier de l'Imbut, alternates between the canyon's shoulders and the riverside, thus entailing a lot of climbing up and down.
