Farmhouse in Campania, Italy

Property Details of Campania Farmhouse

Casale Giancesare is located in an absolutely prime location, only two kilometres away from Paestum archaeological area, which includes the ruins, the 2.500 years old temples and the beautiful museum. The Casale, which was built during the 19th century with original local stones, has been completely renovated and every single year that passes new improvements are made in order to make your stay always more pleasant.
Today it is a place surrounded by a Mediterranean garden composed by a vast variety of trees and plants like centuries-old olive and mulberry trees, vineyards, pomegranates, lavender, sage and rosemary plants. What is more important is that all the property is totally surrounded by nature, creating an atmosphere of complete relax. On the front side of the house is possible to have a look of the seaside: the view of the gulf of Salerno, with the Amalfi and the Cilento coasts that frame the island of Capri, is breathtaking especially at sunset. All the renovation of the structure was guided by the common sense and wisdom of the Voza family; the materials that have been chosen and the particular care about details have resulted in a perfect harmony that well balances a simple and refined style with all the modern comforts.
Renovations preserved the original external aspect and structure of the house. Rooms are very large and cosy, even the mansarda ones. Furniture, which respects the original style of the house, is inspired by the simplicity that used to characterize the old rural lifestyle. Here and there in the house is possible to find rare and unexpected objects. The result is a perfect blend of simple and essential furniture mixed with more modern items, in order to give our guests all the comforts they need.
All the rooms are double and can be used and arranged also as triple or single upon request. Each room is provided with private bathroom, TV, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi connection.
Besides rooms, our guests have the possibility to choose between three apartments, each of them provided with a double or triple room with private bathroom plus an extra room with a cooking area and a double sofa-bed. All the apartments have independent entrance and are equipped with all the comforts such as TV, air conditioning, fridge, oven, microwave.
We recommend this kind of accomodation to families and groups of friends.
From June to September the apartments have a minimum stay of one week with arrival and departure on Saturday, but we recommend to contact us if you wish to stay shorter or if your arrival/departure is not on Saturdays.
The cost of water, gas, electricity, air conditioning, swimming pool use, parking, bed and bath linens are included in the price of the apartment.

Local Area Details

The seaside is not far from our structure: in fact from the garden of the house you can appreciate a wonderful view of the Gulf of Salerno composed on the right by the Amalfi Coast, which includes beautiful and world-known towns like Ravello and Positano, together with the most beautiful island of the Mediterranean, Capri; on the left side instead there is the Cilento coast, less famous but full of uncontaminated natural treasures, which includes the territory between the town of Agropoli and Palinuro. Casale Giancesare, in fact, is in the middle of a territory very rich in myth, art and nature. Casale Giancesare overlooks also the wonderful Greek town of Poseidonia, renamed as Paestum by the Romans. Inside the old walls of the city there are interesting ruins, like three 2.500 years old Doric temples, very well preserved, especially the Neptune temple, which is considered one of the best-preserved Greek temples in the world. Near the Sele river, in 71 BC, Roman proconsul Marco Licinio Crasso defeated and killed the rebel gladiator Spartacus. In the Castle of Capaccio, located on the mountain at the back of Casale Giancesare, in 1246 a huge conspiracy against Frederick II was put down. The last important historical occurrence dates back to the Second World War: on 9th September 1943, Anglo-American troops landed on beaches in front of Paestum, directing towards Salerno, Naples and Rome. On a hill nearby, place of worship since the prehistoric times and where the Greek built a temple in 6th century BC, the sanctuary of the “Madonna del Granato” is standing, which dates back to the 11th century AD. This worship comes from the Greek goddess Hera, who used to be represented holding a pomegranate in her hand. In this sanctuary, in 954 AD, the body of the evangelist and apostle Saint Matthew was preserved in a marble urn, before it was moved to the cathedral of Salerno. All this territories represent, in fact, a priceless environmental and artistic heritage . If you wish to visit the inland territories, in the very heart of Cilento, you can find and appreciate a vast number of small towns characterized by old tradition and a beautiful surrounding nature. Many artistic treasures can be found, such as the fortress of Sicignano degli Alburni, the amazing Chartusian monastery in Padula, or the ruins of the old Roman town of Elea (known with the classical Roman name of Velia), were Greek philosophers such as Parmenides and Zenone were born.
