Local Area Details

We are situated about halfway between Rennes and Nantes and are still recognised as Brittany by many of the locals. The largest town is Redon which is 24 ks away. We are in the area of 3 rivers, Vilaine, Don and Cher. Guemene Penfao our nearest town is situated on the edge of Loire Atlantique and Ile de Vilaine and the Morbihan. This makes visits into Brittany easy for exploring. The Morbihan offers a varied coastline, and is a centre for boating. The Menhirs (standing stones)are an important part of the Brittany heritage and can be seen in many places along this coast. Many of the Brittany villages are picturesque and very pretty in the summer with floral displays, amongst them Rochefort en Terre and Josselin with its chateau built on the banks of the Vilaine. The river Don flows past the nearest town of Guemene Penfao which is 4 kms away and has 2 supermarkets, banks,shops and a choice of restaurants. The Vilaine river is the major waterway in the area and runs from St Malo to Roche Bernard and out into the Atlantic. The riverside offers many opportunities for fishing, boating, walking and cycling. The coast is about 40 minutes away at La Baule which has a long sandy beach and is a popular holiday resort with the French. St Nazaire has wartime connections and the submarine pens are spectacular.

The ferry port of St Malo is about 1.5 hours drive, Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre are about 3 hours. Apart from the drive between Le Havre and Caen where the toll is less than 9 euros the roads in the region are toll free.
