PLACES WORTH A VISIT

Josselin is a very old town with a magnificent chateau on the bank of the canal. (Chateau is worth a tour as is the dolls museum housed in the chateau). Lively restaurants and bars (open until 1.30 a.m). Riverside walks and boat trips.

Rochefort en Terre 30 minutes away is another medieval town city founded in the 12th century, which also has a chateau dominating the town and a superb Church with calvaire.

Vannes is a walled city with it's old town, busy marina, shops and ramparts. Beaches nearby, too many to list, in the Gulf of Morbihan. Boat trips to the many islands nearby run daily.

Rennes is the capital of Brittany, the Old Town is captivating and worth a visit. This is also the nearest airport at St Jacques.

Malestroit another medieval old market town on the Brest/Nantes Canal. On Fridays it has a Musical Evening in the square with all types of world music from Folk to Rock to Pop. Starts around 9.30pm. Get there early as it is very popular.

Auray is a very old town on a steep hill set prettily on the river bank with a small marina plus restaurants and good shopping in the main town.

Ploermel nearby is good shopping, nearby lake [Lac au Duc] a great attraction especially for those with children, it has a man made beach, picnic areas, cafes, small swimming pool, boats, windsurfing, and a 9 hole golf course.

Pontivy a large town with an interesting Old Town area and chateau.

Carnac is about an hour's drive away and has long sandy beaches, typical French seaside resort. Also the setting for the Standing Stones - Menhirs and Dolmans -which pre-date Stonehenge and so many others.

PARIS It is possible to take a train to Paris, the TJV from Redon leaves around 10.30 am and will arrive in Paris just after 1.00 pm, and a return service is available around 7.30 pm arriving back at Redon about 10.15 pm
It is advisable to check at Redon in advance for up to date timetables, booking details and prices. This train also goes from Rennes or Vannes, changing at Rennes. It is about a 5 hour drive to Paris, via Rennes and Le Mans.
