Bramston Beachfront Cottage Australia

Bramston Beach looking north
Bramston Beach looking north

Cottage in Queensland, Australia

Property Details of Queensland Cottage

The cottage provides self-contained accommodation for up to 6 people in one main bedroom with queen bed and a second bedroom with 4 bunk beds. The kitchen is fully equipped (stove, oven, microwave, large fridge + smaller fridge in garage). The living room leads onto the verandah which is 50m from the beach. Our cottage is not a "smart" beachside residence - it is quite basic but very functional. We bought it as our family getaway about 7 years ago. Being only 1 hour from Cairns it was easy for us to make last minute decisions to go to the beach.
In short, if you are looking for restaurants, lots of people and an urban beach life go to Port Douglas. If you are an escape artist seeking local people and a beach to yourself, you will love Bramston.

Local Area Details

Bramston is still a quiet beach with few facilities (1 shop only) and would suit visitors who like fishing and walking. There are no houses for 20km north or south of Bramston. The beach to the north is part of the National Park and is notable for the rainforest running right down to the sea and the huge granite boulders covered with golden orchids scattered along the beach. It is possible at low tide to walk all the way to Russell Heads which is a tiny isolated community at the mouth of the Mulgrave River with no road access.
The beach to the south is about 4km long. Further walking is blocked by the jungle covered headland of Cooper Point which is a fine fishing spot.
The road into Bramston passes through a beautiful stretch of rainforest and occasionally we see the very rare Cassowary.

Bramston Beach is overlooked by the two highest mountains in Queensland. Mt Bartle Frere and Mt Bellenden Ker are around 4000 feet and rise straight up from the coastal plain. They are covered in dense rainforest and many beautiful creeks tumble down their slopes. The Boulders and Josephine falls are both wonderfall places to swim and explore the jungle and waterfalls. Mt Bartle Frere has a well marked track from Josephine Falls to the summit. It is a full day walk from Josephine to the summit and on to the end of the track on the tableland. Babinda is a small sugar town on the way to the Boulders from where another great day walk leads behind Mt Bellenden Ker, through the Goldsborough Valley to the Mulgrave River.
Innisfail is the main regional town between Cairns and Townsville astride the Johnstone River. It is an unspoilt town of great character with a largely Italian population. Nearby are the famous gardens of Paronella Park. A wonderful tropical fantasy created by an immigrant Spanish man in the twenties when they were "the place" to get married. Further south is the lovely Etty Bay and beyond the more touristy but beautiful Mission Beach and islands of Dunk and Bedarra.
