Iori Weekly Machiya Nishioshikojicho Japan
House in Kyoto, Japan
Property Details
Nishioshikoji-cho is a large rambling mansion with many rooms, corridors, two staircases, three tsuboniwa gardens, and beautiful beam work in the dining and kitchen area. It is large enough to hold groups of up to 14 guests. The house has two cedar wood baths, one of which looks out over a garden. A caretaker permanently resides in the house and will assist guests when available.
Entering the house through a long corridor, you come to a small garden before the main entrance. After stepping up into entryway, open a door to the large, wooden-floored kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, toaster oven, hot water pot, and sink. In the dining area is a long table and chairs. Adjacent to the dining room is a tatami room, where high-quality futon bedding can be prepared for up to two guests. From this room, you can enter a small, humbly decorated tea room, which faces one of the gardens. On this floor guests will also find two cedar wood furo baths (with showers), and two western-style toilets.
Taking the stairs from the dining room up to the second floor, you will find a large tatami room that can accommodate up to five guests and another, smaller tatami room that can accommodate up to two guests. Following the second set of stairs near the front of the house, guests will find a broad loft with heavy wooden beams overhead, in which more futon bedding can be spread for further guests.
Nishioshikoji-cho is centrally located between Oike and Marutamachi Avenues, east of Karasuma Avenue. It is a five-minute walk from the Karasuma-Oike station of the Karasuma and Tozai subway lines.
Nishoshikoji-cho has been remodeled and is maintained by Iori Company, many of whose staff speak English fluently. Iori staff will help you check in and out and will clean the house for you during your absences. Iori also offers concierge services. Feel free to ask us about recommendations and arrangements for sightseeing, dining, shopping, and entertainment.
