Sabugo House is a luxuriously restaured old stone farmhouse. The barn has become an annexe with comfortable bedroom, two single beds, entrance hall and bathroom. The main house consists of a large livingroom, cozy kitchen with old fashioned wood oven and all other amenities, bathroom and one large bedroom (160x200). The couch in the livingroom turns into a double bed as well (160x200). Both bathrooms have a shower, toilet and washbasin. There is also an outdoor shower built in original vulcanic stone, with hot and cold water; complelety private. There are two terraces, one in front of each building, complete with outdoor furniture and old fashioned stone benches. Also possible to use the garden of the owner, adjacent, with chickens and horses to greet you and a place to meditate next to the fishpond.

Local Area Details

Sabugo House is situated on a small rural sideroad in the province of Capelo. It is a very quiet neighbourhood and views towards the ocean and the caldeira/vulcanic mountain. Hiking starts right at your doorstep and the path behind the house leads you over the owners grounds into forests and through old stone roadways. This year we have marked hiking trails! In close proximity to 5 restaurants of which one pizzaria, another has a minigolf, the third woodgrilled chicken and fish,a German specialty and a portuguese restaurant. There is a saltwater swimmingpool with a separate pool for children and access to the sea from the rocks in Varadouro. Capelo also boosts horse stables with about 30 horses. In the summermonths there is outside trail riding for the advanced. Horta is just 20 minutes driving away where several companies do whale-and dolphin watching and diving. There are many restaurants, a cinema, a theatre, an indoor swimmingpool, a white sand beach, a whale museum, and a botanical garden. The only big supermarket in Horta is Modelo. There is a daily open market with local produce and local butchers, bakeries and fashion shops. The ferryboat to Pico and S Jorge leaves from Horta several times per day. One can cross over to Pico in 25 minutes and hire a car on Pico to do the tour of the island. Or the more sporty among you can climb mount Pico the highest mountain in Portugal with 2375 m. One should take a guide for the climb.
