Cumminges is a secluded mountain hamlet 3000ft up in the French Pyrenees, open all year round, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. A place of magnificent mountain panoramas and soaring eagles, set in 3 acres of wildflower meadows and tranquil forest. Only 15 mins from the market town of Foix, sleeping 4 very comfortably, it makes an ideal centre for outdoor activities or to plan cultural visits. The cottage looks out over the Ariège valley onto the Cathar abbey fortresses of Monségur and Roquefixade, and Mont Forcat (6000ft).
The Accommodation comprises;
A lounge/kitchen (salle à manger) with a raised lounge area, and soft furninshings around a wood burning stove
The kitchen is fully equipped with gas cooker, microwave, washing machine and fridge/freezer.
Two double bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other twin bedded, both with wash basins, facing South East to catch the early morning sun.
A separate shower room and WC
The area surrounding the cottage is a large private grassed area with sun terrace looking out over the rooves to the mountains, with a BBQ and garden furniture. There is ample space for private parking.

We can also provide B & B,meals/packed lunches, half/full board priced in Sterling/Euros/Dollars.

Children are most welcome, indeed having children of our own we can offer lots of ideas for interesting excursions.

Local Area Details

The Ariège is one of the truly wild habitats remaining in France and the immediate area has awealth of cultural and leisure activities to suit all ages, and ability ranges.
Walking.
There are walks at all levels from the hamlet, and in the wider area, where 10,000ft mountains are quite accessible. A `via ferrata`has also been completed on Mont Valier. We are both mountaineers with an intimate knowledge of the mountains and forest tracks and would be only to pleased to share our knowledge.
Mountain Biking
Guests can go mountain biking from the cottage or from higher up the mountain. There is a book of local VTT pistes available to borrow. For the more passionate bikers why not take a long weekend break -fly in to Toulouse or Carcassonne and we can do the rest (airport pickup, B & B, packed lunches, half/full board.
Water Activities.
With two large lakes only 45 mins drive from Cumminges, guests can partake in fishing, boating/canoeing or simply have fun in the water.The Ariège river hosts kayaking, and white water rafting. Water skiing is also available at our local `base nautique.
Equestrian.
Several equestrian centres are located around Foix and provide for both half and full day sorties, as well as pony treking over the mountains or just visiting the centre for the day. We can also organise horses from Cumminges.
Hangliding/paragliding.
For the more adventurous there is paragliding on Pratd`Albis (above Cumminges)the site just 10 mins from the Cottage, with instruction and dual flights available.For experienced paragliders he cottage is the nearest accommodation to the site.
Skiing and snow shoeing.
The nearest ski station is half an hours drive away and the immediate area is renown for cross country skiing. There are 2 pairs of snow shoes that guests can borrow - we are quite willing to introduce guests to the pleasures of {raquetting`).
Pre-Historic Caves.
Three important caves lie in the area - Niaux, Labouiche and Lombrives with smaller accessible caves around Tarascon. These caves have pre historic paintings and access through one is by boat. There are guided tours in English most days of the year.
Foix.
The market town of Foix is only 15 mins drive down the mountain, and as befits the prefectural centre of the Ariège it boasts a wide variety of cafés, riverside restaurants, festivals artisanal markets as well as a skatepark, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, childrens playgrounds, a polular `centre cultural`with films, theatre and music, and `son et lumière`performances (July and August) in the outdoor theatre.
La Nature
The Ariège is renown for it`s natural habitat, and some guests come simply to enjoy and partake of the peace, calmness and positive airs of the hamlet, but everyone, whatever their reason for coming here, delghts in the pure fresh mountain air.
