Casa Maria is a traditional village house sympathetically restored by the English owner with rough plastered walls, terracotta tiled floors and ornamental ironwork. The front door opens in to a cosy open-plan living/dining room. The spacious kitchen is well-equiped and the breakfast room beyond enjoys lovely views over the small colourful garden with pool and mountains beyond.
Open-sided stairs lead to the first floor and the two pretty bedrooms decorated in white and blue with paintings of the area adorning the walls. The twin bedroom has a balcony with views over the ruins of the Moorish castle keep whilst the double bedroom has a sunny terrace offering stunning views over the village rooftops to the valley and Ronda mountains beyond.
Local Area DetailsOnce a frontier village between the Moors and the Christians, Jimena is set in the beautiful foothills of the Ronda mountains. It is built on a free-standing hill crowned by a romantic Romano-Moorish castle. The surrounding magnificent countryside, largely falling within the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, is ideal for bird watching, walking, horse-riding, painting and photography.
There is excellent swimming in the river pools (rated the cleanest river in Spain), attractive pools in the village and the sea is but thirty minutes away.
Within half an hour is the Valdarrama golf course and other golf courses and polo fields. Many old Andalusian towns and sites of historic and archaeological interest may be visited within a days driving.
The house is well-equipped and is supplied with a large fridge and freezer, washing machine, radio/casette player, electric radiators, in bedrooms and diningroom, gas stoves, electric fans and hair dryer. All linen and towels (including swimming towels are provided). Weekly cleaning and a starter pack is provided. Eating at the many reasonably-priced tapas bars and restaurants in Jimena is a pleasure and the shops are well supplied.
