Aurum Lodge, Alberta's unique and award winning eco-tourism resort in the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies, is located on Abraham Lake, a mere 25 minutes from Banff National Park. This all-season accommodation is easily accessible year round and appeals to guests looking for wilderness, comfort, seclusion and tranquility in a mountain setting, away from the major tourist centres.

Aurum Lodge offers two different types of accommodation:
1) Our self-contained units sleep two or two plus one (cottage) or four to five persons (2-bedroom apartment). These units have private baths with shower, a fully equipped kitchen, woodstove and are fully winterised. Cottage guests look after themselves and prepare their own meals.
2) Our B&B Inn includes six differently appointed guest rooms with great views, private baths and full breakfast included. Lodge guests can also book half-board arrangement (bfst and dinner) and have access to the common areas in the lodge (dining, sitting room, deck). We can also cater to small special interest groups (nature, visual arts, wellness) of up to 12 people and have a multipurpose / meeting room for group events.

The entire facility is smoke free and one of the lodge rooms is wheelchair accessible. There are no phones or TV's in guest rooms or cottage units. A pay phone is located in the lobby of the lodge.

Aurum Lodge is the only property to receive the top five green leaf eco-rating from the Hotel Association of Canada and has received a number of other awards such as the Alberta Tourism Award for Sustainable Tourism and the Pollution Prevention Award by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment. We actively support conservation efforts in the region and encourage our guests to "tread lightly" on this very special area by only engaging in (non-motorised)low-impact activites and minimising impact on the land, wildlife and other area users.

Local Area Details

Aurum Lodge is located in Bighorn Country, a wild and relatively unknown region along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains. Topography ranges from undulating, forested foothills to glacier-capped mountain tops along the boundary of Banff and Jasper National Parks. The lodge and cottages are just over a two hour drive from either Banff or Jasper and many of the National Park attractions including Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefields can be visited from our location. Most guests choose to stay in the vicinity however, enjoying our many hiking trails, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and historic attractions (native culture, Nordegg National Historic Site, etc.)
Summer activities include hiking, biking, trail riding*, canoe tours*, climbing whereas winters are ideal for winter hiking, snow-shoeing, x-country, ice-climbing*, dog-sledding* or ski-joering*.
Year round, you can relax, take tours into the parks, watch wildlife and paint or photograph.
