Local Area DetailsPLAYA EL CALON is midway between the small tourist resorts of San Juan de los Terreros (5mins) and Villaricos (8mins) on the Costa de Almeria, which is located in the South East of Spain, tucked away between the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol. The larger resorts of Mojacar & Aguillas are within 20mins drive. Generally, the area has yet to be discovered by the Tourist industry and is consequently still rural and typically Andalucian. El Calon is a small quiet cove where you can really relax. Almeria is an area steeped in Andalucian tradition with the historic villages of Mojacar, Turre, Los Gallardos, Vera and Garrucha all within easy reach. Several excellent Golf Courses nearby including the famous Deserts Springs complex with Tennis, gym, pool & Restaurants. Other nearby activities inclued horseriding, go-karting, boat trips snorkeling, scubdiving (lessons avail.in Mojacar). Vera Water Park with water shoots, slides and pools is only a short drive. There is also Vera Nudist Beach close by. A visit to the western park is great fun where you can take in the cowboy shows or even be a cowboy for a day with your own horse. Mojacar beach has many restaurants, water sports and entertainments and is just a short drive away. The local fishing village of Garrucha is an interesting place to visit. Here you can enjoy relaxing beer & tapas in one of the local fresh restaurants along the Marina, while watching the fisherman arrive with their daily catch. Many amenities are to be found in Garrucha including a large open-air market on Fridays. There are numerous historical Castles & Museums within easy drive and large shopping centres in the cities of Murcia, Almeria & Granada, ideal for site seeing day trips.
El Calon is within easy reach of 3 busy airports i.e. Alicante (2hrs), Murcia (1hr) and Almeria (1hr). These airports are serviced by FlyBe, Easy Jet, Monarch, Thomsons and Ryan Air. Car hire is essential when visiting this area as public transport is very limited and there are so many interesting places to visit.
