Additional InformationAbout Airport InformationMontoulieu is approximately one hours drive from both Carcassonne and Toulouse airports. The drive from Carcassonne is particularly pleasant passing through vineyards, fields of sunflowers and some beautiful medieval towns with the ever approaching view of the Pyrenees.
About WalkingThis whole area in the foothills of the Pyrenees is a paradise for walkers. There are numerous trails to cater for all levels and the rewards are outstanding, as the views are tremendous. There are many books available outlining walks and it will only make you want to return again to explore some more.
About BeachesThe river Ariege flows through the valley below our lovely village. In a few minutes drive you can arrive at the 'Base Nautique' at Mercus where there is a lovely small safe beach sheltered in a bay on the river. There is a small cafe and shaded picnic area and some beach activities. From late June until early August there is a tele-ski on this section of the river. A silent water ski! You can hire all the equipment hourly at a very reasonable rate or watch the antics from your picnic table. A great place, never too crowded and in another section close by electric pedal boats are for hire and canoes arrive from the downriver run from Tarascon.
