Local Area Details

To give you a feel for the place......it is wonderfully warm , very relaxing,. Miles of  beautiful white sandy beach . At the beach, the water is clear...the water is warm  - as it is the Gulf of Mexico. (On the Atlantic coast, on the other side of Florida, the water is significantly cooler)
Walking along the beach, you will see herons and pelicans flying low over the sea...fishing...You will also see dolphins in their natural habitat. It is most soothing. For the little ones, the sand is wonderful and there are some attractive shells to be found. The sunset is particularly stunning ...something we never tire of.
On the Inland waterway side , we have a fishing dock .....our daughter caught a large flounder ....and when you fish, you often get joined by an Eaglet ...willing to eat anything on offer. On the odd occasion, manatees have been seen close by the dock.- The only other place to see them seems to be zoos ...Sea World etc. This is a protected species and awesome when seen close up.
Being so close to the sea, there are opportunities to go out fishing .... you can try your hand at marlin fishing . To do this, you would need to go either to St Petes or Clearwater (both within easy driving distance - about 7 miles)
Also, there are opportunities to go out on a boat to see the dolphins ....we went .....the dolphins follow the boat. It is wonderful. Clearwater also has special things laid on for the children ...a 'pirate ship' is particularly popular. There are also many many restaurants in Clearwater.
If you are fond of sea food, then a visit to Crabby Bill's is a must ... You can sit in or there is a takeaway service ... (it's odd to takeway lobster tails, oysters, crabs etc...beautifully cooked ....it was where our children (11 & 13)  first got a taster for lobster!)
I would recommend  this area of Florida ....it is extremely  relaxing,  away fom the bustle  ...If you want to visit Disney, then it is approx 1.5 hours drive ..... For a youngster, I would recommend Sea World - It is our favourite of the theme parks . Disney does have height restrictions for rides.
Anyway, I hope I have given you a taster of this truly wonderful place ...we love it  and  return as often as we can.
