About Weather/Climate/Temperature
Sintra is in a micro-climate usually cooler in the mountains and misty in the mornings. It is a beautiful hilly green terrain with stunning views of the Atlantic coastline. It is also quieter than many areas closer to Lisbon and Cascais - it was the summer retreat of the kings.
About Beaches
There are 5 beaches within 5-15 minutes of us. Some have surfing shops and facilities for renting equipment. All have restaurants and cafés. Local fisherman often are seen early in the morning or in the evening. There are lifeguards but it is always important to read the warning flags. The most striking beach is Praia de Adraga (down from our nearest village, Almoçageme) as it is wedged between 2 enormous cliffs. Guincho beach and Praia Grande are famous for their surfing competitions.

About Airport Information
Sintra is a famous historic centre. The following are must-sees: Moorish Castle, Pena Palace and gardens, National Palace, Monserrate Gardens, Quinta da Regaleira, Capuchos (monastery built into rock) and walking in the Serra from various places including our house which backs up to it.
About Scenery/Beauty Spots
National parks mentioned under 'beauty spots' are essential. There are also smaller children oriented parks in most villages and small towns including Sintra Vila, Almoçageme, Colares, Cascais.

Besides our pool, local beaches(we have a body board and 2 bikes for guest use)there are art museums (Centro Cultural de Belem) which offer summer workshops.

There are many good Portuguese restaurants near us which offer excellent fresh fish and meat courses. There are also many simple cafés which always have very good soups and savoury fare including sandwiches.

About Walking
'Turismo' centres are in every local town or near major monuments. The staff speak English and they distribute information on local history and sites to visit. They also provide information on events such as the Sintra Music Festival which runs from June to July.

Almoçageme (3 minute by car from us)has 2 grocery stores, butchers, fresh fruit and veg markets and a fish market. Further afield one can shop at Cascaishopping, Beloura or Jumbo which are large shopping malls all within 20 -25 minutes.
