he Byre is a converted & renovated longere which is part of a 19th century "fermette" (small farm) at Crampoisic, just five minutes from the Lac de Guerledan in lovely central Brittany. The sympathetic renovation has retained original features such as the pointed stone walls & beamed ceilings whilst having modern facilities to give you a real home from home for your holiday.
Double-glazed French doors open from the terrace into the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. The living area has comfortable sofa & armchairs, TV with video & DVD players with a video & DVD library, CD player with radio, & bookcase with a selection of books for your holiday reading. There is also an attractive glass-fronted woodburning stove to help keep you cosy all year round.The farmhouse table & authentic Breton benches seat eight comfortably, in this area is the antique Breton buffet which holds plenty of crockery & kitchen equipment, as well as those important wine glasses for that wonderful French wine.The kitchen has fridge, gas cooker, toaster, microwave & coffee maker & an extra table. The washing machine & ironing board can be found in the separate utility room. The ground floor bathroom has a full-size bath with shower over & electric heater. There is a double ground floor bedroom with double bed & electric heating.In the spacious galleried mezzanine bedroom are two single beds & a double. there is also a double sofa-bed below the mezzanine, bringing the potential sleepng capacity up to eight if required.

There is a large, pretty, courtyard garden and sunny lawn area with picnic tables and chairs in front of the gite. This is perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying an aperitif before dinner, or just relaxing after a busy day at the beach or exploring the lovely countryside & market towns of central Brittany. There is also plenty of room on the lawn for sunbathing, relaxing or even playing games for the more energetic!
There are lovely country walks leading from the garden and our own woodland to explore just a short walk down a quiet country lane.
Off-road parking and covered secure storage for boats, cycles etc is also available. At the end of our own back garden behind the farmhouse we keep free-range chickens and ducks, you are welcome to come and visit them and help us collect eggs (children especially love doing this).We grow our own fruit and vegetables as organically as possible and these are available in season, along with home-made preserves, bread and our own free-range eggs.

Local Area Details

Crampoisic is situated in lovely countryside only five minutes from Lac de Guerledan, the largest lake in Brittany which has several sandy beaches with canoes, motorboat & pedallo hire, a waterski-ing centre & a sailing school. Mur de Bretagne with its Friday evening market & friendly bars, cafés & supermarket is only a few minutes away.
The Abbey at Bon Repos is nearby, this was founded in the 12th century modernised & enlarged in the 18th century, but sacked after the Revolution. It now hosts a spectacular Son et Lumiere each August with around 400 participants & is highly recommended. The busy market towns of Pontivy, Rostrenen & "Petite Cite de Caractere" Quntin are only 25 minutes away.

About Bars

Laniscat, which is about 5 kilometres from Crampoisic has a great bar, "Juste à Côté" which also does good food at very reasonable prices, the owners also run a gift shop/Brocante next door where you should be able to find gifts for even the choosiest people! There is a good bar Ty Mad in St Mayeux (3 kilometres) in the town square close to the church & the Mairie/Post Office & between the two local shops.

About Beaches

Crampoisic is only five minutes from Lac de Guerledan which has several safe, sandy beaches suitable for all the family. The beaches have roped off swimming areas 'no lifeguards) Beau Rivage has a waterskiing club, "vedette" boat trips around the lake & onto the Nantes Brest canal, canoe, motorboat & pedalo hire, & bars, creperie & hotel for a whole range of eating options. The north coast with its wonderful cliffs & sandy beaches is only 45 minutes away & the west coast & the lively city of Lorient with its huge Celtic festival in August is only an hour from Crampoisic.

About Fishing

Guerledan lake has a good stock of carp & pike, it is possible to buy a holiday fishing permit in the local Bar/tabacs. There is a smaller lake at Corlay- only 8 kilometres away where you can fish for trout for only €5 per day

About Scenery/Beauty Spots

Central Brittany is very beautiful with rolling hills & open countryside interspersed with forests of oak, hazel & willow and with very many lakes, both large & small. In the area are deep gorges with gigantic boulders but also gentle valleys.
