Abricot has a rural setting with Views of Mont St France
View of Abricot
Gite in Brittany, France
Property Details
Henry and Ruth live with Frodo their Labrador in a special part of Brittany bordering Normandy. A country lane at the front of their home lends a romantic view of Mont St Michel. We would like to share this idyllic place with you and provide the perfect base for a relaxing break, a family holiday or an activity break.
Set in 2 acres of land, our home was originally built as farm buildings for the chateau in La Rue in the 1700’s. Although not a working farm now, we have some livestock and are planning to develop a fruit and vegetable garden in 2008.
A Relaxing Break
We are open all year for a relaxing break away from it all. Come for a long weekend or a mid-week break.
Family Holidays
We offer the perfect escape for families, with chickens and sheep to entertain you at home and a huge choice of things to do in the area. We currently have 3 ouessant sheep, a miniature breed from the west of Brittany, and 8 chickens.
Activity Breaks
Outside school holidays we host activity holidays, including golf and cycling breaks.
Whatever you want to do, we are on hand to help you make your holiday a success and can be involved as much or as little as you would like.
This is a 2 bedroom cottage sleeping up to 4.
Outside is your own piece of garden, with a garden table, chairs and a parasol.
Open the front door to:
an open plan living area, with comfortable seating,
dining area
fitted kitchen, which includes modern gas cooker, fridge and microwave.
There is a CD/Radio/Tape deck.
Stairs lead to the first floor landing, from which there is:
Double bedroom
a twin bedroom, which can be converted to double.
Each bedroom has bedside tables and lamps, hanging space and shelf storage.
a bathroom with full size bath and shower over, and hand basin and separate wc and hand basin
A chest of drawers on the landing and another in the bathroom provide extra storage
Shared facilities include washing machine, clothes line, books and jigsaws, and, for, a small charge, a tumble dryer.
The cottage was updated in 2007 to provide the comfort and practicality of modern living, while retaining the rustic charm of the original buildings. It benefits from proper bedrooms, with full size beds as indicated. Heating is available on request and we can provide a cot and other baby equipment, including stair gates, high chair and baby bath. We have a selection of bikes for all ages, available for hire.
Shared grounds surround this, with hammocks, swings and a slide. There is plenty of space to play ball games alongside the cottages. We have a paddling pool and sand pit, available on request.
A covered hangar in the grounds makes a great spot for a barbecue and there is an abundance of fruit and nut trees including cherry, peach, plum and walnut.
Adjacent to the play area is our field where we keep our livestock. Our chickens are truly free range, and you are welcome to collect the eggs during your stay, if you can find them!
Local Area DetailsOur home is just off the old Coast Road from Pontorson to Saint Malo. Our most famous local attraction is Mont St Michel 4kms from us as the crow flies and a very gentle cycle ride away.
We have great views of Mont St Michel from both the front and the back of our home with the vast expanse of farmland reclaimed by the Dutch in the 1700s in the foreground. All year round you can explore the bay of Mont St on foot or on horseback but take care not to get caught at high tide.
Beaches
The closest beaches are at Hirel and Cherrueiux 15 minutes to the west. There are lots of little beaches up towards Cancale and a favourite for children is at Verver just north of Cancale. You can also head east to explore the beaches on the way to Granville
Swimming
There is an indoor pool about 25 mins away at Dol de Bretagne
Local Shopping
We are in a small hamlet with a bakery 1 mile away and supermarkets 5 mins away in the car. The bakery van visits the hamlet 3 times a week
Restaurants
La Baie du Mont St Michel where we are is famous throughout France for the quality of mussels the only AOC approved mussels in France and oysters farmed here. Cancale 30 mins from here claims the title world gastronomy site and is home to the oyster beds and a bewildering array of seafood restaurants. Closer to home there is a good selection of restaurants many promoting local salt marsh lamb presale.
We love food and can provide anything from a light supper for the day you arrive a home cooked meal to eat in your cottage to a four course meal with wine.
