Farmhouse in Brittany, France

Property Details of Brittany Farmhouse

The house is set in the quiet rural hamlet of Le Rez, a small distance outside Buléon, Morbihan. It is an ideal base for visiting the beaches of the southern coast of Brittany with it being only 40 minutes from Vannes and Lorient. It is also perfectly located for exploring the countryside of central Brittany.

Available for self-catering holiday rental throughout the year, it provides accommodation with character and modern conveniences, and a large private garden that is safe for children to play in and explore.

This old stone farmhouse has been carefully renovated and equipped for modern living. It provides comfortable accommodation while retaining many of the original features such as the oak beams, exposed stone work and fireplaces.

The house is ideally suited to large family groups, with garden space and parking to suit.

THE GROUND FLOOR

This floor provides an open living, dining and kitchen area. There is a separate wash-room with a shower and toilet. Traditional clay floor tiles are to be found throughout, along with original oak beams and boarded ceiling. Exposed stone work surround the door, windows and the chimney.

The Kitchen

The solid oak, fully tiled kitchen is large and well equipped, easily providing for the needs of nine people. The kitchen includes a large fridge-freezer, a full size electric oven, a ceramic hob, a micro wave oven, and a dishwasher. There are also many smaller items in the kitchen which include of a coffee maker, a kettle, and food mixer. There is a good view from the kitchen window over open fields.

Dining and Living areas

Immediately next to the kitchen area are two dining tables and chairs conveniently positioned, that provide seating for nine people. Beyond this is the living area- at the opposite end of the room to the kitchen where there are large sofas for nine people. There is also a colour remote controlled television, tuned to French broadcasts, and a HI-FI (tape, radio, CD).

There is also a wood burning stove which is available on request for use during the cooler months.

The Wash Room

This separate room has a shower, toilet, wash-basin and automatic washing machine/dryer, ironing-board and steam-iron.

THE FIRST FLOOR

The first room accessed from the landing is a large double bedroom, and is furnished with an oak bedroom suite. There are light oak beams, a granite fireplace, and exposed stonework around the window.

Further along the landing is the main bathroom. This has a wash-basin, a full size bath, a toilet, and a shaving point. All features in here are completely new but we have managed to retain the oak beams.

And finally for this floor, there is the 'triple' bedroom which is really intended to sleep children all of a similar age. Having said that, the quality of this bedroom is the same as the others, with very good quality beds, furniture and fittings. This is one of the largest bedrooms with the beds all well spaced out. The outlook is over the garden.

All the bedrooms and landing have fitted carpets.

Returning back along the landing to the top of the stairs, you take a second flight up to the second floor.

THE SECOND FLOOR

There are two very similar single bedrooms at the top of the stairs.

Next to them is the shower-room which also provides a toilet, a wash-basin and a shaving point.

The last room of the house is a large double bedroom which has views over the garden and towards the opposite side of the house.

Throughout this floor the ceilings are finished in natural pine boarding with the original oak 'A' frame roof supports exposed. All the bedrooms and landing are fully carpe

THE GARDEN

There is parking for several cars close to the house with direct access to the door of the house for loading and unloading of luggage. The patio area provides a convenient area for sitting and eating outside which has two large picnic tables and a fixed barbecue. There are upright seats and a bench in the garden as well. Along-side the patio and extending around the parking areas are the borders of shrubs with lawns beyond. There is also an area of trees which children usually enjoy playing amongst.

The garden provides plenty of space for children to play well away from any roads as the house is accessed by a very long driveway. There is separate area of grass next to the garden, a safe distance from the house where a football can be kicked around and other ball games played. The garden is bordered by an orchard and fields.

Local Area Details

The surrounding countryside gently undulates a mix of fields and woodland. There are many local villages accessible through a network of very quiet minor roads ideal for exploring with bicycles.

A Route Nationale is 1 Km away and allows for easy access to the coast and other more distant places of interest. The nearby towns of Locmine and Josselin can be reached within ten minutes drive and they provide all the facilities you may need.

Josselin is a beautiful and particularly historic town and it is well worth spending some time there. Guided tours of the impressive chateau are available from where you can look down over the canal where boats can be hired.

Near to Locmine is the impressive Chateau de Kerguehennec which has been transformed into a openair park of modern sculptures. Dotted amongst the woodland you find the weird and wonderful and sometimes bizarre figures The grounds are open all the year round ideal for a quiet walk.

Ploermel is a medieval town which boasts much history like Josselin. It associates itself with legends of knights and King Arthur and on the northern perimeter of the town in front of a hotel of the same name is a large lake with a beach. Water sports take place here and boats can be hired.

A small distance further west of Ploermel is the Forest of Paimpont. This is the largest remaining area of natural forest left in Brittany. This is a great area for cycling.

If you require something a little different the St Marcel Museum near Malestroit displays armoured vehicles weaponry and trucks from World War II.

The southern coast of Brittany is just thirty to forty minutes away. The Golfe du Morbihan Auray and Vannes are just some of the coastal places which should not be missed. The many beaches of the coastline are of soft white sand. There are quiet ones and those which are busy and fashionable such as Carnac.

Inland from Carnac is perhaps the most impressive site of Megaliths in all Brittany. Owing to the need for conservation the stones can only be looked at from a distance but a greater appreciation can be gained by looking around the visitors centre.

These places mentioned are just a very few of the many which cover southern Brittany.
