Warm out of season old stone cottage at Petrou France
House in Midi Pyrenees, France
Property Details of Midi Pyrenees House
Comfortable for two people searching for an “out-of-season” peaceful break to visit this beautiful corner of France, its cultural, natural and culinary attractions. Available from mid October to mid June.
The original small furnished cottage was built in the 19th century and updated in recent years into seasonal living space for the owners. It is surrounded by 10 acres of land of fields and woodland, hidden in rolling hills, between the villages of Catus and Uzech in the wine country of Cahors. It is at the height of land between the Lot and Dordogne Rivers. It stands some 30 metres from the main house where the owners live themselves much of the year. A beautiful, sunny and warm spot. Great place to escape for true tranquillity. All that romantics could wish in terms of seclusion.
The accommodation within the cottage includes a double bedroom; full modern bathroom; kitchen, eating and living room. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, a microwave-convection oven, refrigerator-freezer and lots of cupboard space that will please the discerning cook. A wood burning stove supplies the heat and this can be supplemented with electric radiators.
Local Area DetailsTHE SURROUNDINGS: There are beautiful north and western vistas overlooking fields, other farms and woodlands. To the south the view extends some 25 kilometres. A magnificent large oak tree beside the old house completes the idyllic setting. Walking, cycling, & driving at a leisurely pace are all so easy with little other traffic. The local people are warm and welcoming.
CATUS: 7 kilometres to the nearby town of Catus with many facilities and services: food stores, doctors, pharmacy, boulangerie.
THINGS TO SEE: Pétrou is 20 kms north of the Gallo-Roman City of Cahors, some 40 kilometres to Sarlat, and 45 km south-west of the cliff-hanging heritage site of Rocamadour. It is easy driving to the many beautiful villages, castles and chateaux of the Perigord. Many other cultural attractions in the Lot and Dordogne valleys include the fortified (or bastide) villages of the region of Midi-Pyrenees. A number of restaurants and cafes are within a short driving distance and offer an incredible range of regional, national and international foods and wines. Vineyards in the region welcome visitors to taste their vintages. We are close to a major medieval pilgrimage route across southern Europe, dotted with gems of Christian heritage like Conques and Moissac, en route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the burial place of St. James.
THINGS TO DO: No shortage of things to do in their season, including golf, swimming, rock climbing, caving, painting, hiking, cycling and just relaxing. The navigable Lot River has boat tours, rental boats and canoes in season. A bird watchers’ paradise.
The resident owners welcome the chance to share the delights to be found in this corner of France.
GETTING THERE: There is easy road access from the major north-south Autoroute A20, approximately 20 kilometres to the east. Taxis and car rentals available in Cahors. Train service to Cahors from Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Spain. Airports with car rentals in Toulouse, 120 kilometres to the south, Bergerac 100 kilometres to the west and Rodez 100 kilometres to the east.
THE place for two adults wanting relaxation. Ideal for visiting this beautiful region of France.
