About Weather/Climate/Temperature

The climate here in our area of Costa rica undergoes two main changes. The dry season is from mid November until late April/ May, and the rainy season begins in May and ends mid November. The dry season is characterised by the Papagayo winds which blow offshore for months, making the surfing conditions ideal. Not a drop of rain is felt for 5 months, the days are blue, sunny and the water clear and beautiful. The average temperature is around 30 degrees celcius. In the initial months of the rainy season, showers are generally localised to the afternoons/ evenings. Everything becomes green and lush, and the temperatures, while still being around 30 celcius are moderated by the rain.
August through Sept the rains increase and by October, it is possible that it will rain all day, every day for weeks.... not generally advisable to visit in October!

About Beaches

Playa Grande is, as its name suggests, a big beach. It takes approximately 40 minutes on a leisurely walk to walk the length of it. At the south end, Playa Grande is separated from Tamarindo by an estuary. You can catch a little boat across the estuary for around $1, and walk to see the shops and sights in Tamarindo.
Playa Grande is much more tranquil and less developed than its neighbouring beach town. Other beaches in the area worth visiting on a day trip are Playa Avellanas, Playa Flamingo and Playa Conchal where there are some great local souvenier markets.
Always be careful when visiting a beach, and know your water safety. Brush up on your knowledge like what to do if caught in a rip current, and educate your family too. Many beaches in foreign towns lack surf lifesavers, so it is doubly important to be aware of your surroundings, and know what to do if something goes wrong at the beach, even at home.

About Golfing

We recommend the Lazy Lizard sunset sailing. Leaving from Playa Flamingo, and treating you to an afternoon of breathtaking scenery, snorkelling, sea kayaking, snacks and drinks, you will fall in love with Costa rica and want to come back!

About Local Restaurants

Around the corner from Frijoles Locos, is the famous Kike's Place. An extensive menu, with meals for as little as $4US, traditional Costa rican fare, as well as pizzas, pasta, seafood, and meat dishes.
For an incredible sunset cocktail location, visit The Rip Jack Inn. Wonderful, 5 star food, cuisine that blends modern tastes with traditional Costa rican preparation too. Absolutely mouth-watering! Their breakfasts are huge, and after a long walk or surf on Playa Grande's perfect waves, you will deserve it.
