FISHERGROUND FARM HOLIDAYS

We have three pine lodges and one stone cottage for holidays in Eskdale, all around the acre of old orchard and stream on this traditional Lakeland fell farm. Each sleeps up to six, -the lodges in three bedrooms, and the cottage in two. All are very well appointed, with TV, video, microwave, dishwasher etc. The laundry is shared by all four and has washing machine, tumble drier and payphone. There is also a shared games room and a raft pool with a couple of rafts, and an adventure playground a little distance away. Each lodge has ample parking and lots of space round it, with picnic table and chairs.

Local Area Details

Eskdale is a fascinating valley, with the seven mile Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge railway (T’ La’al Ratty) running through the farm land; indeed, we have our own station on it!
The history trail: there are reminders of the last 5000 years here, from the stone circles up on Eskdale Common, to the well preserved Roman Fort at Hard Knott Pass, and the Bath-house at Ravenglass, to the Viking crosses at Gosforth and Irton churches, to Muncaster Castle, dating from the 1200’s, to the water-powered corn mill at Boot, to the Iron ore and stone quarrying that were the foundations of the Ratty some 130 years ago, and many other examples to seek out.
The walking trails: Eskdale has literally scores of walks, from a gentle stroll up the river Esk to the hardest of slogs up Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, and everything in between.
The cycle trails Again, there are many off-road cycle trails, including a lovely ride down to Ravenglass and return on a special carriage on the Ratty.
Pub trails: we don’t have a lot of evening entertainment, except for the fine variety of pubs, all welcoming children and serving good bar or restaurant meals. There are five in the parish itself, and a further five within very easy reach, so you can try a new one every night!

Further afield, all the Lake District attractions are within about an hour’s drive. Here’s a brief selection:
 Keswick with its Leisure Pool.
 Boating on Derwentwater, Coniston or Windermere.
 Windermere with its Steamboat Museum, marina, water skiing and sailing
 Horse riding or pony trekking.
 Dozens of Historical Houses and Castle which are open to the public.
 Sellafield Exhibition Centre
 Cumbria's coast and sandy beaches.
 2 theatres - the ‘Theatre by the Lake’ at Keswick and Rosehill Theatre at Whitehaven.
 Wordsworth's birthplace and his homes, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount.
 The excellent shopping centres at Ambleside and Keswick
