Cottage in England, United Kingdom

Property Details of England Cottage

Two cottage totally upgraded in 2002 with little regard for expense following purchase by the current owners and subsequently both graded four star by the English Tourism Council. They are both one bedroomed, (one sleeping two with an en-suite, one sleeping three i.e. one double and if needed a single, giving the option of using as a twin bedroom) with a modern tasteful ambience. These two cottages have full sized bathrooms with showers over. They also have lovely and effective log effect stoves in the living room Both have fully controllable central heating, gorgeous real granite sinks, gloss worktops, leather suites and top of the range laminated floors of the highest quality (where not carpeted). In the courtyard there is a barbecue and laundry room and provision for off-road parking of cars. There is some limited outdoor seating area with flower borders. Most importantly housekeeping is our highest priority. In both cottages there are seven (!) personalised highly organised information folders, much praised, enabling guests to make the most of their stay. Weekly events lists are supplied between May and September.

Local Area Details

Hartington is one of the most highly regarded villages in the Peak, famous for its creamery with shop selling genuine Stilton and other cheeses, geese pond, hall and fine old stone buildings. The approach down a long dale to the village from the main road really takes some beating. The River Dove is only a few hundred yards away and a very popular walk starts in the village, over some lovely meadows to the River, along the stretch known as Berefsford Dale, which in turn leads onto Wolfscote Dale and the most famous Dale of the Peak, Dovedale.

Obviously, being adjacent to the River Dove, (at Beresford Dale, leading to Wolfscote Dale and the famous Dovedale), and close to the Manifold Valley, and not far from the second most popular dale of the Peak, Lathkill Dale, the village is surrounded by the most wonderful countryside, with hills dales in all directions, benefiting from a superb network of footpaths and bridleways. However the location in any event is highly convenient, even ignoring, if you can, the attractions of the Great Outdoors. All the villages in the White Peak are well worth exploring, ideally on foot. Nearly all consist primarily of old stone cottages, with tracks and ginnells to explore. Hartington, one of the most visited villages is famous for its creamery, cheese shop selling genuine Stilton cheese and other types, and geese pond, The estate village of Tissington, 10 minutes away, features on the front page of many publications. There are wonderful ruins such as Peveril Castle. Intact stately homes include Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, (no more than 15 minutes away) Keddlestone Hall and Sudbury; Caves include four at the attractive village of Castleton the only place where the lovely semi-previous stone Blue John is mined, and also one in Buxton. There are numerous rocky outcrops and other caves also in the area to explore and climb. The wonderful old lead mine Magpie Mine is just 10 minutes away. Stone circles and burial mounds abound, there is plenty of evidence of Roman occupation and even the fields remind one of the Medieval period with their 'terraces', ridge and furrow or later, strip fields, always surrounded by the wonderful dry stone walls. There are numerous reminders also of our Industrial past, such as Arkwright's Cromford Mill. The absolutely amazing National Tramway Museum is a must and there is also the surprisingly interesting National Stone Centre. Buxton, 15 minutes away, with its famous Crescent, Pavilion Gardens, Orangery and Opera House is well worth a visit. Carsington Water and Rudyard Lake attract bird lovers and water enthusiasts. Alton Towers is under 30 minutes drive away. All in all, our part of the Peak District, that within 30 minutes, including all the above, has more to offer the visitor than anywhere else in Britain
