Spacious 2 person cottage with galleried bedroom United Kingdom
Cottage in England, United Kingdom
Property Details of England Cottage
Superbly located as will be seen from the ariel views and well within the Peak District, this truly spacious and luxurious cottage has a large sized bathroom with Italian floor tiles, containing five piece suite, and a similarly well equipped kitchen. Above these two rooms is a good sized galleried bedroom, which overlooks a large open plan lounge, rising to the rafters. The floor of the lounge is polished stone flags (with quality rugs in appropriate places) and a splendid wood burning stove on a stone plinth is a focal feature in the middle of the room. Some of the stone walls are exposed, as are the extensive wood beams. The tastefully co-ordinated furniture and furnishings are of a high standard, including a leather Chesterfield suite and chair, as well as an Irish dresser.
The cottage is well heated, with two storage heaters in addition to the log-burner in the lounge, and a storage heater in the bathroom. Full Sky progammes and complimentary use of a phone (except for international calls)
There is a private patio area in front of the cottage with superb views over the surrounding dales (not dissimilar to the ariel view shown). To the side is a lawned garden area shared with the two other (four person) cottages on the site. The cottage has been awarded a 4 Star classification by the English Tourist Board (and under the old grading system 'Highly Commended plus')
The extensive number of repeats we have in this cottage ensure that there has not been one vacant week in over three years.
Most importantly housekeeping is our highest priority. In both cottages there are seven (!) personalised highly organised information folders, much praised, enabling guests to make the most of their stay. Weekly events lists are supplied between May and September.
There are two wild flowers meadows on our land, one of which borders a nature reserve leading after just over a mile to the Rive Dove (at Wolfscote Dale). One mile downstream is the most famous Dale of the Peak, Dovedale. The cottages are located off a quiet country lane between the highly popular village of Hartington and its smaller, quieter neighbour, Biggin. The nearest pub is 700 yards away.
Numerous footpaths surround the land on which the cottages stand, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. There are three cycle trails within 3 miles of about 15 miles each, one of them only one mile away.
The Peak District market towns of Buxton , Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek and are all about 11 miles away at different points on the compass, all these towns being on the edge of the White Peak, justifying our claim to be in its heart.
Local Area DetailsApart from the wonderful countryside and nature reserves, nearly all the villages in the White Peak are well worth exploring, ideally on foot.. Nearly all consist primarily of old stone cottages, with tracks and ginnells to explore. Hartington, one of the most visited villages, famous for its creamery, cheese shop selling genuine stilton cheese and other types, and geese pond, is just one mile away. The estate village of Tissington, 10 minutes away, features on the front page of many publications. There are wonderful ruins such as Peveril Castle. Intact stately homes include Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, (no more than 15 minutes away) Keddlestone Hall and Sudbury; Caves include four at the attractive village of Castleton the only place where the lovely semi-previous stone Blue John is mined, and also one in Buxton. There are numerous rocky outcrops and other caves also in the area to explore and climb. The wonderful old lead mine Magpie Mine is just 10 minutes away. Stone circles and burial mounds abound, there is plenty of evidence of Roman occupation and even the fields remind one of the Medieval period with their 'terraces', ridge and furrow or later, strip fields, always surrounded by the wonderful dry stone walls. There are numerous reminders also of our Industrial past, such as Arkwrights Comford Mill. The absolutely amazing National Tramway Museum is a must and there is also the suprisingly interesting National Stone Centre. Buxton, 15 minutes away, with its famous Crescent, Pavilion Gardens, Orangery and Opera House is well worth a visit. Carsington Water and Rudyard Lake attract bird lovers and water enthusiasts. Alton Towers is under 30 minutes drive away. All in all, our part of the Peak District, that within 30 minutes, including all the above, has more to offer the visitor than anywhere else in Britain
