Luxury Townhouse Apartment in the REAL Italy Italy
Your apartment is in a townhouse in the historic centre of town
Apartment in Abruzzo Molise Marche, Italy
Property Details
This two bedroom apartment is in the historic centre of Montalto delle Marche which lies on the eastern side of Italy roughly half way down the country parallel to Rome.
Montalto delle Marche lies between the Adriatic coast which is 25 minutes away and the Sibillini National Park which is about 35 minutes inland. Montalto stands 512m above sea level and part of your accommodation used to be the lookout tower for the town in the 14th century so has the most spectacular views over typical rolling and green Italian countryside.
This very large self catering apartment which covers about 100 square metres is set over two floors and has a roof terrace which is perfect for dining al fresco, enjoying the wonderful local produce. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the with two single beds and for a maximum capacity of 6 there is also a sofa bed in one of the apartments two lounges.
The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and has a fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, Smeg hob and oven and as this is in the tower section of the apartment - simply stunning views!
Our nearest aiports are Ancona and Pescara, both of which are just over an hour away. Ryanair fly from London Stansted and Liverpool to Ancona and from Stansted to Pescara.
Rome is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours away and has many international flights. The journey from Rome to Montalto is particularly nice as you pass through the splendor of the Appenines and the National Parks.
Local Area DetailsMontalto delle Marche has a population of about 2700 so is very well catered for with a selection of shops, restaurants and cafe bars. There is a local market on a Wednesday morning which sells a variety of fresh Italian produce and as Le Marche is one of the largest leather producing regions of Italy you'll also find stalls selling shoes, handbags and other leather goods.
The beaches at Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto which are our closest ones both have European Blue Flag status so are safe for swimming and are wonderfully clean. There are a number of good fish restaurants and cafe bars along the beach front and it is possible to rent sunbeds on the beach or you can use the free beaches that are dotted along the coast as the locals do.
There are many hill top towns waiting to be discovered - Montalto being one of the most important as it was elevated to the status of city by Pope Sisto V who trained in the town (it is probably the smallest city that you are ever likely to visit)!
Le Marche boasts the largest limestone caves in Europe just south of Ancona at Genga and this is well worth a visit. If you like culture then you won't be disappointed, we highly recommend the Macerata Open Air Opera Festival which takes place in the summer.
The provincial capital of Ascoli Piceno, also known as the town of 100 towers, is less than 1/2 hour away and is thought to be older than Rome. This is well worth the visit as it has many boutique shops and sitting in one of the cafe bars in the main square (Piazza del Poppolo) is the perfect place to sit in the afternoon people watching.
