Portugal is one of the warmest European countries, Spring and Summer are hot and sunny with temperatures climbing as high as 45ºC. Autumn and Winter are typically wet, but its very uncommen to have long warm sunny spells 20ºC with clear blue skies.
About Transport
A car is essential for travel in this area. Although there are public transport services available, if you really want to explore the beautiful villages and many attractions of this unspoilt region at your own pace a car is advisable.
About Fishing
There are many river and lakes in this region, perfect for fishing. A local license is required to fish in Portugal and can be obtained at most local fishing shops on presentation of your passport or ID card. Prices are approximately 8 euros per year.
About Scenery/Beauty Spots
The local area is mountainous and surrounded by pine and eucalyptus forests with fantastic views. There are many scenic view points, historical sites to visit, Os Poços (3 stone houses used many years ago to store ice, Capela de Santo António da Neve (a 200 year old chapel at the top of the mountain Santo António da Neve.
About Local Attrcations
There are many Praia Fluvials (river beaches) in the surrounding villages and an open air water parks with wave machine. Also the Barragem Cabril, a natural fresh water lake, used locally for fishing, swimming, scuba diving or just relaxing and soaking up the sun.
