The approach is along the splendid avenue of trees that leads from the Fakenham-King’s Lynn Road to Houghton. The entrance and garden to the Lodge is in the deer park. The South Lodge is a listed building, as is every house in the estate village, and has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard.
The South Lodge has 1 double & 1 twin bedroom with ensuite shower room/1 bathroom - sleeps 4 max.
The entrance for the property is through a porch (with washer/dryer) into a fitted kitchen/dining room with fridge/freezer, electric oven with hob, extractor hood, microwave and dishwasher. Dining table, chairs and dresser. Archway to inner hall with a monk’s bench, plentiful hanging hooks for coats and large wardrobe for use by guests in the ground floor bedroom. Compact bathroom with bath, hand shower attachment, WC/WB. Sitting room with TV/DVD player, fireplace (logs provided) and desk. Twin bedded room with en suite shower/WC/WB.
On the first floor there is a door in the sitting room that opens to very steep, narrow stairs to the double bedroom, with large wardrobe and dressing table. Hairdryer. The whole cottage has oil fired central heating.
Outside there is private parking; enclosed, fenced garden adjoining deer park. Garden furniture and barbeque.

Norfolk is one of Englands most historic counties as its abundance of historic houses and over 700 medieval churches testify The coastline offers endless opportunities for walkers cyclists and nature lovers who come to enjoy some of the best reserves in the country Cromer Sheringham and Hunstanton provide all thats best about traditional seaside towns wonderful clean beaches and plenty to do and the Norfolk Broads are not far away The Hall and Park are open to visitors from Easter Sunday to end of September on Wednesdays Thursdays Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays Stately Holiday Homes clients who are staying at one of the cottages during this time will on request at the ticket office at the time of entry to Houghton Hall receive up to four complimentary entrance tickets to the house gardens and grounds During the year occasional special events take place in both the Hall and in the grounds Details will be given in the information folders in your cottage Other attractions include the medieval church of St Martins and an enormous eighteenth century stable block which houses the Cholmondeley Soldier Museum etc The original five acre walled garden has been restored and is now devoted to fruit and vegetables herbs and a formal rose garden herbaceous borders etc It is more than likely that you will come across members of the large herd of rare white fallow deer which roam free in the park along with Longhorn cattle and flocks of Norfolk Horn and Southdown sheep There are good footpaths and wonderful walks on the Estate Peddars Way runs along the Estates western boundary Houghton Hall was built in the 1720s by Britains first Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole and it is one of the most impressive surviving Palladian houses in England with interiors by William Kent It is one of the seats of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley who is the joint Hereditary Lord Great Chamberlain of England Houghton Park is classified as Grade I and recognised as being of international importance There is also the famous deer park with its population of some 1000 white fallow deer and small groups of exotic deer
