Villa Anna Val di Comino Sora Cassino Italy

Prices from £350 per Week
The tranquil secluded Val Di Comino lies deep in the countryside between Rome and Naples. It is an area of gently rolling hills, dotted with small towns, open fields, olive groves and vineyards. It is an ideal spot for a relaxing holiday and a good base for excursions. Access is easy. Rome and Naples airports are about an hour and half's away. On the north east the Apennine mountains rise to 2000 metres. At the top is the Abruzzo National Park. Once a royal game park, today it is one of Europe's largest nature reserves. It is a vast area of steep peeks, narrow valleys, high plateaux, crystal clear streams, lakes and isolated villages. Protected wild animals in the park include bear, boar, deer, eagles and even chamois. Dense beech forests alternate with fields, pastures, bare rocky slopes and flowery alpine meadows. The area has a long history. Atina, today a small town, is older then Rome. Cicero and his friends had villas in Sora. The abbey at Montecassino help save the wisdom of the ancient world during the Dark Ages, when Goths, Saracens, Normans and many others swept through the valley. Today it is rural and peaceful. Your holiday can start with some gentle outings, exploring the local towns and countryside, tracking down bargains in the local markets or just surveying the passing scene over a coffee or an ice cream. The more energetic can walk in the mountains, go horse riding or even hang gliding. For a day at the seaside, there are fine beaches at Gaeta, about an hour's drive away. Good road links mean hundreds of places of interest between Rome and Naples - and further afield - are within easy reach, for example, the gardens of Ninfa, the villas and vineyards of the Castelli Romani, (including the Villa d'Este, Tivoli, Orvieto and Frascati), Vesuvius, Pompei, Paestum, Capri, Sorrento, the Amalfi coast, Ravello and ancient Paestum. Hotel Tramp's is run by Benito Colarossi (tel: 0039776695150). Benito knows the mountains well and can advise you on walks and other trips. The Hotel has tennis courts, a 25 metre swimming pool and children's pool (summer months). All the rooms have private showers. There is also a private apartment for four. The Hotel's broad terrace overlooking the Valley is an idyllic place for drinks followed by dinner, as the sun sets over the mountains and the stars come out. The food there, at Mister Tramp's in Ponte Melfa and at several other places in the valley is excellent. The emphasis is on local produce, freshly prepared. The Villas are a mile further on, at the entrance to the village of Pietrafitta. They each stand in about an acre of ground and have open views all around. The kitchens' east windows open onto a breathtaking view of the mountains. The kitchen balconies are the perfect spot to take in the whole panorama perhaps at breakfast in the morning sun. In front of the sitting rooms are shaded porticos with distant views framed by tree-clad slopes. Guest accommodation is all on one floor. The master bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms and French doors to sunny front balconies. Villa Alberto has two further bedrooms, again a twin. Each Villa also has a main bathroom, a kitchen - dining room and sitting room with fireplace.
