Stunning, ivy-clad 18th century French Chateau set in 15 acres with heated pool. Recently refurbished. On border between Tarn and Haute Garonne, just an hour from the airports of Toulouse (BA, Easyjet, Jet2) and Carcassonne (Ryanair).

Dournes is deep in the countryside, enjoys its own wooded and lawned gardens and is not overlooked from any angle. It's an 18th century ‘Maison de Maitre’ and we have recently refurbished it, finishing it to a high standard and equipping it with a mix of modern and antique furniture. Having spent many happy holidays here with our 4 children and their friends, we can testify that it is ideal for family holidays and ‘getting away from it all’…but doing so in style!

Ground floor accommodation comprises lounge, Chinese sitting room, chandeliered dining room, study, games room (with full size snooker table, table football and TV), fully equipped kitchen and utility rooms and WC. There are 5 bedrooms on the first floor, sleeping 8. The master double has a separate dressing room and bathroom as well as its own sun terrace. The second double is also ensuite. The twin and two singles share another bathroom and 2 WCs.

The remaining 3 beds (1 twin, 1 single) are in their own, separate ‘caretaker’s’ apartment. This has its own entrance, lounge, kitchen and bathroom and is rented free with the Chateau.

Our pool is a 20m long, heated, salt water pool.

Please note that the Chateau shares its location and certain facilities (pool, washing and tumble dryer machines) with our Farmhouse which we also rent out. However, to ensure maximum privacy and exclusive use of all our facilities, we offer those renting the Chateau the option of also renting the farm ‘unoccupied’ at half the going rate.

Local Area Details

Whilst ours is a rural region with a strong culinary tradition (cassoulet, foie gras) there is also plenty to do. We have canoeing, windsurfing, horseriding, mountain biking, go-karts, pedaloes, fishing and walking all within a 30 minutes drive. There is even an adventure theme park 20 minutes away. The nearby Montagnes Noires offer caves and ruined Cathar castles. The medieval cities of Albi (cathedral, Toulouse Lautrec museum) and Carcassonne (the walled city is a World Heritage Site) are each an hour's drive away as is the major city of Toulouse (extensive shopping). The beaches of the Mediterranean and the peaks of the Pyrenees are each and hour and a half away.

Our nearest supermarket is 8km away in Revel and the nearest hypermarket 20km away in Castres. There's plenty of restaurants nearby and even a Michellin-starred one 20 minutes away
