MonteMateo is an estate of 1 Hectare approx. situated in the Natural Reserve of La Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche to the north of Huelva. The property is next to Galaroza, one of the most beautiful villages in the area. Galaroza is 3 km away and Navahermosa (a tiny hamlet) is only 1km.

In Winter the climate is mild but sometimes wet with cold nights and in the Summer it is hot and dry in the daytime and cool at night. The abundant vegetation and surrounding hills make it much cooler in the Summer than in other areas of Andalusia.

The estate is situated in a sloping, sleepy valley protected from the winds and more importantly, south facing. The house, which sleeps six, is surrounded by a huge garden that comprises olive groves, cork trees, a pear orchard and various bathing pools.

The two storey cottage of 110 m2 is completely new and fully furnished. It comprises a dining/drawing room with fireplace, TV and stereo, a fully-fitted kitchen/breakfast room, three double bedrooms complete with linen, two bathooms (including towels), a 60 m2 veranda and a terrace.

The house has been built according to the traditional rustic style of the region using materials of the best quality – solid wooden beams, solid chestnut window frames, terracotta floor tiles and double glazing for efficient insulation.

The covered veranda is east facing – making the best of the morning sun and stunning view. The veranda terrace is beautifully paved using a typical local method found only in the sierra. The spacious terrace is south-facing and has a barbecue and a pergola which can support a vine to provide a cooling Mediterranean shade.

The nearest village for shopping and supplies is 3 km away and the main town is only 12 km away. Seville airport can be easily reached and is only 100 km from the house, Jerez airport is 180 km or alternatively Malaga airport is 300 km. The nearest Portuguese airport is Faro and this is 150 km.

The house is connected to the mains electricity and water supply. The new Swimming pool is 6x4 Mts. with filter system.

The maintenece of the Garden and swimming pool is provided by the owner.

Local Area Details

The Sierra de Aracena mountain range, which stretches from the north of Huelva Province to the western edge of the Sierra Morena, covers an area of 184,000 hectares. Its forest are typically Mediterranean, essentially composed of holm oak and cork trees, and interspersed with wide tracts of pasture. There are also many ancient chestnut trees and gall oaks, alternating with orchards in the valleys. The land surface is highly irregular, with softly rolling hills and pine groves suddenly giving way to towering limestone formations from which the hiker can enjoy splendid views. La Gruta de las Maravillas – the Cave of Marvels - in Aracena is famous for its spectacular calcareous formations. The fauna includes the stone martin and black vulture
