Local Kassiopi amenities Enjoying this much privacy does not mean that you are isolated Kassiopi centre is within a 15 minute walking distance slightly longer on the way back up or less than two minutes by car approx 1400m A local supermarket is just a few minutes walk away about 500m ideal for your immediate needs and your daily newspaper A taverna can be found just around the corner from the supermarket where the snack bar bar and supermarket facilities at the Michelangelo Village complex are also open to the public most useful on the way to or from the local beach at Votana for a cold drink or icecream Votana A tranquil pebble beach although it does have a sandy rocky area with a feel of the real Greece to it Bordered by just a few houses and apartments it is just a 10 minute walk down from the Michelangelo Village There are no bars or tavernas on this beach although sunbeds and parasols are for hire so you may want to take drinks and food with you Avlaki beach Another long beautiful pebble beach a 15 minute stroll along the road from Votana Here there are two excellent tavernas and surfboarding and sailing lessons are given at the far end of the beach Avlaki as is Votana has crystal clear waters ideal for those who enjoy snorkeling Sunbeds and parasols are also available Other beaches in Kassiopi Down in the centre of Kassiopi off of the headland you will find a choice of beaches although they are all mostly pebble As you walk up the path along the top of the rocks you will marvel at the colours of the water around the rock shelves and coves The local Scuba Diving School holds its lessons and carry out their dives around this headland pedaloes and canoes are for hire from at least two of the beaches and other watersport facilities are based here The beaches are generally much busier than Votana and Avlaki but worth a visit to for a swim nonetheless If you are hiring a car during your stay you will soon discover that there are many sandy pebble and shingle beaches and small coves all along the coatline of Corfu to chose from some of which can only be reached by hiring a boatLink Fillipos Boats Take into consideration when planning which beaches to stop at that the beaches on the north and west coastlines which face open seas can be choppier and the seawater feels cooler than the beaches along the east coastline The nearest and most popular sandy beach for young children is probably Kalamaki beach just a few miles north of Kassiopi The sea level at Kalamaki is surprisingly shallow for at least 70 metres and once you have been out further into the sea for a swim on your return you will find that the shallow water temperature feels almost hot You can also reach Kalamaki beach by booking a ticket for a return boat trip from Kassiopi Harbour Some holiday companies have organized beach BBQs at Kalamaki beach with the inevitable beach games so dont be surprised if a boat anchors at the pier and you are joined by a lively party St Stephanos There is no doubt that the northeast coastline of Corfu Island offers some of the most magnificent scenery comparable we are told with the views in the Carribbean Islands As you travel up the coastline from Ipsos breathtaking views will have you reaching for your cameras St Stephanos the famous upmarket retreat for VIPs is just a few miles from Kassiopi and it is well worth sampling a taste of the local corfiot cuisine from one of its cluster of popular tavernas Kouloura Kalami and Kerasia are all beautiful small resorts within a short travelling distance of Kassiopi and the views looking down from the roadside onto these villages should not be missed Viggla is also a place to take some stunning photos from and provides a particularly magical view early in the morning at sunrise Excursions There are a large variety of organised excursions available to tourists on sale through local travel offices although many of these trips you can enjoy by hiring a car andor boat There is for example an organized trip to Aqualand an enormous and excellent waterpark in the Ropa Valley for a fun family day out but there are other much smaller alternative waterparks on the island aswell Naturally there are many different boat trips both to Corfu Town itself the capital of the island and to different beauty spots along the east coast There are so many villages to find and explore by road and so much magnificent scenery to enjoy as you travel that we would always recommend that car hire even for a minimum of 3days is money well worth spending Please let Julia know if you wish her to send you details and costs of the wide range of organized trips available which surprisingly even includes daytrips to other islands mainland Greece and even Albania
