Property Details of Tuscany House

A rare find in Tuscany – a new house in the heart of a charming hilltop village, only an hour from Pisa airport.

Set in an exclusive development of only 13 apartments in traditional Tuscan style with a shared swimming pool, our property boasts views across the valley to Volterra, and is only a few steps from all village amenities. Orciatico is a delightful Tuscan village with a café/bar which is the heart of village society, 2 grocery shops and a restaurant. You can buy fresh local produce at the weekly market in Lajatico, only 10 minutes away by car. Lajatico is the birthplace of the opera singer Andrea Bocelli, who hosts a concert each year in May at the spectacular Teatro del Silenzio, also only 10 minutes by car from our house.

The house has a spacious living room and a separate kitchen / dining room. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs, both with full ensuite shower rooms with shower, sink and WC. The front bedroom has a double bed and opens onto a balcony with beautiful views. The back bedroom has 2 single beds which can be made up as 2 singles or a double. There is a 3rd full shower room downstairs, also with shower, sink and WC, and a sofabed in the living room which can comfortably sleep 2. For outdoor living, there is the front lawn which opens onto the communal courtyard, and the back terrace which is accessed from the kitchen, so you can follow the sun or shade throughout the day. There is no TV in the house, but we do have a radio cum iPod dock and speakers for you to play music from your own iPod or MP3 player. There is full gas central heating in all rooms. The kitchen is equipped with gas hob, electric oven, fridge and washing machine.

San Gimignano and Pisa are an hour away. Slightly further afield but still within easy day trip distance are Florence and Siena. The seaside is also within an hours drive A car is essential to get the most out of your holiday here For foodies there are several wine cellars and food producers including Savini Tartufi, the renowned truffle producers, in the area. About Local Attrcations
Tuscany is renowned for its world-famous art collections, charming medieval hill towns and sweeping hillsides full of Chianti vineyards. You can see Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and Michelangelo's "David" in Florence and virtually any hill town will provide the perfect backdrop for an 'off the beaten track' day trip. Tuscany's coastline offers a great variety for sun and sand lovers. Sandy beaches to a rugged coastline and hidden coves stretch from Marina di Carrara to Argentario. The best beaches are found between Marina di Carrara and Livorno, then again a few kilometers south of Livorno to Piombino, the gulf of Fallonica, and finally from Castiglione della Pescaia to the Argentario. Looking for day trips? Here are a few must sees: Florence - It's a must-see stop for a reason, so even if you can't stand crowds and don't like art it's worth at least one full day. Beautiful, romantic and inspiring Florence should be the top of any Tuscan visitors list. Pisa - One of Italy's most famous symbols, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, is here in Tuscany. It can be a quick stop en route to somewhere else just to get a quick snapshot of the famous tower, or you can linger longer as there is plenty more to see in this wonderful city. Siena - Many a traveller's favorite spot in Tuscany, Siena manages to stay charming no matter how many tourists clog the streets in summer. The town is centered around a public square called Il Campo, which is the site for the city's most famous annual event - the Siena Palio. Whether you visit during the Palio or not, you'll be treated to a glorious and proud city with a beautiful cathedral and excellent views of the countryside. Volterra - This delightful hill town is our local centre, only half an hour from Casa Pietro. Watch artisans at work in the famous alabaster marble workshops for which the town is famous. There is also an excellent Etruscan museum and a Roman amphitheatre. Volterra is one of our favourite spots for an atmospheric Sunday lunchtime stroll to watch the locals on their weekly 'passegiata'. San Gimignano - One of Tuscany's most well-known hill towns, justly renowned for its many medieval towers. The drive towards the town from Orciatico is also very scenic. A must-see day trip, especially out of season when the tourist crowds are absent. Stop to taste the local Vernaccia wine along the way. Bolgheri - A delightful village surrounded by some of the most renowned vineyards in Tuscany. Big-name 'Super Tuscan' wines such as Sassicaia and Argentiera are produced here and can be tasted in the village.
About Airport Information
Tuscany has two international airports, the Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa (1 hour from Orciatico) and Amerigo Vespucci Airport, in Florence (1.5 hours from Orciatico). Both airports handle flights to and from major European cities. Pisa handles the bulk of European scheduled flights, with direct flights from the UK on BA, and from many European airports on Ryanair. Longhaul and transatlantic flights arrive in Milan and Rome, both about 4 hours away by road or rail. http://www.ryanair.com
