Five Gables Cottage is situated at the south-east end of the village of Binchester, approximately 3 miles north-east of Bishop Auckland and 8 miles south-west of Durham City.
The house, built circa 1860, is opposite the owners' Guest House,
and has been completely re-furbished with facilities and equipment for
five guests to sleep in two bedrooms. The house is fully double glazed.

The bedrooms and bathroom are situated on the first floor.
The kitchen/diner and lounge are situated on the ground floor
The front entrance is via a double glazed porch with coat rack.
The main bedroom has one double bed and one single bed, built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers, hairdrier & bedside tables.
The bathroom has bath, shower, toilet & washbasin
The large lounge is equipped with a gas fire, TV, video recorder, radio, large coffee table and writing desk. There is a range of books, games etc. as well as tourist information provided.
The kitchen has a gas hob and electric grill/oven, fridge/freezer, micro-wave, toaster, kettle and auto-washing machine/dryer, with ample storage units plus a large storage cupboard with shelving. Vacuum cleaners, iron and ironing board are provided.
All rooms have been furnished to provide comfort for guests. Central heating is by gas-fired hot water radiators with thermostatic valves in each room and a room thermostat in the lounge.
There is gated parking on site for 2 cars, with garden & lawn to the front
and side, and a paved patio area to the rear.
A garden table and chairs are provided. A gas Bar-B-Que is available on request.
There is exterior lighting to front and rear.

Local Area Details

Binchester is an ideal centre for touring being 15 minutes from Durham City, 45 minutes from Newcastle, 1¾ hrs from York, 2 hrs from the
Lake District and 1½ hrs from the Scottish Borders and 2 ¾ hrs from Edinburgh.
A good bus service to Durham & Newcastle is available 250m from
Five Gables Cottage, with local services to Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor approximately 50m from the cottage;
and we are close to Binchester Roman Fort,
Auckland Castle (theBishop's Palace) and a Cycle Path.

There are golf courses at Bishop Auckland, Crook & Durham.
Leisure centres at Willington, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland.
Beamish Open Air Museum, the Metro Centre ( for shopaholics), Newcastle, the Roman Wall, the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorks Moors, the Durham Dales and the coasts of both Yorkshire and Northumberland are within an easy hour's drive.
Major supermarkets, banks and general shops are available at Bishop Auckland (3 miles). There is a Service Station shop open 5 am -11pm, selling a range of goods from milk to toothpaste, 300 yds from the cottage, & a sub-post office/shop 1 mile from the cottage
There is a public telephone (& post box) 100 yds from the cottage.

A public footpath opposite the cottage leads to fields, woods, the Auckland Walk & Weardale Way for those wishing to exercise themselves or dogs.
Arrangements have been made to enable guests to use the bar in the village Community Centre (100 yds).
For those who do not wish to totally 'self-cater' there are a number of inns in the area and good reasonably priced food can be obtained.
The owners would be pleased to offer advice on places to visit and eat.
