Local Area DetailsThe cultural/historic patrimony of Bruges gives the city a European and international dimension. The Bruges monuments, museums and particularly the unspoiled historic cityscape attracts thousands of visitors every year. As a result Bruges received the title of European Capital of Culture in 2002.
Since this property is very centrally located (200 meters from the central place) everything is within walking distance.
But there are other ways to visit Bruges : a boat trip on the canals, a horse-drawn cab , a guided bus tour, by bike or a guided walking tour.
Although you can spend several days strolling around Bruges, it is also a base from which to visit nearby Flemish cities of art: Ghent (45 km), Antwerp (105 km) and Brussels (95 km). All these places are no more than an hour from Bruges, either by train or by car. Nearer to the city, the coast, the beaches and various other locations in West-Flanders, such as Ostend, Ypres, Damme, De Haan or Knokke-Heist, are also well worth a visit.
