Property Details of Provence Villa
Our home is located on the outskirts of the village at the end of a rural cul de sac in a small copse of pines and oaks which provide pleasant shady areas in the heat of the day. The house is divided between 2 buildings - the main house and the ?Cabanon? with an open area between. Both buildings are in provencal style.
The single story main house has a large living/dining room with a large stone Provencal style chimney for open log fires. Opening off the living room is a fully fitted modern kitchen with gas cooker, dishwasher and fridge. A washing machine and second fridge/freezer are in the utility room/garage. The living room opens out at the front of the house on to a terrace with a built-in barbecue. The main double bedroom is a sunny double aspect room leading off the living room. A small hall leads to the bathroom, toilet and main entrance. The Cabanon is a self-contained twin-bedded second bedroom with an attractive terracotta tiled floor and en-suite shower room with shower, toilet and washbasin. All the rooms are attractively furnished and the house confortably accommodates 4 people - up to six with the use of a sofa bed in the living room. There are electric heaters in both the main house and the Cabanon. A telephone is provided with itemised billing.
The garden is secluded consisting mainly of oaks and pines. There are plenty of pleasant sitting out areas and chairs and tables are provided for eating out. The swimming pool is surrounded by a landscaped area with lots of sunbathing space. Loungers are provided. In our experience swimming in April is only for the very hardy and thus, subject to demand, we operate the pool from May to September.
Bed linen is provided but please bring your own towels. There is a radio cassette/CD player and satellite television (English and French channels) with video for entertainment and we also leave a few books and games in the house.
Local Area DetailsThe Parc Naturel du Luberon is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty in southern Provence. Bounded to the north by the Vaucluse plateau and to the south by the Grand and Petit Luberon mountains the Luberon valley is a picturesque landscape of vineyards, orchards and lavender fields enhanced by the famous hilltop villages of Gordes, Roussillon and Menerbes to name but a few.
Les Cistes is located on the edge of St. Saturnin d?Apt a village situated towards the eastern end of the Luberon valley about 10 minutes drive from the town of Apt. The village has two excellent bakers and a butcher plus a small supermarket with a superb choice of goats cheeses. Good Cotes de Ventoux and Cotes du Luberon wine can be bought at any of the local Caves Co-operatives at the sort of price you dream of - our favourite is the Cave Co-operative de Bonnieux just off the main valley road the N100. There are many good restaurants in the area.
Further afield, the attractions of Avignon, Aix, St. Remy, Nimes, Orange and Arles are all within easy exploring distance with the beaches of the Cote d?Azur and the Camargue accessible within around 2 hours via the Autoroute. The nearest airport is Marseille - approximately one hours drive from St. Saturnin. To drive by autoroute from Le Havre is around 10-12 hours.
If you visit the area in July or August and all you wish to do is lie in or around the pool or under the trees in the garden, this is a lovely place to do just that but other times of the year are just as beautiful. Springtime is delightful with the cherry orchards in full bloom, the lavender fields look beautiful in June and early July and in September/October the ?vendage? begins. This area is renowned for its sunshine days and blue skies all year round.

The rent includes all services except telephone charges. Direct call charges are deducted from your deposit on receipt of the France Telecom bill.
If you have five or six people in your party we charge an extra ?30 per person per week to cover the cost of providing extra linen and cleaning. Whilst our sofa-bed is very comfortable, the layout of the house means that a little privacy is lost with larger parties. We are very conscious of safety and the potential hazard of swimming pools for young children, for this reason we do not accept bookings from families with children under five.
We ask for half the rent at the time of booking and the balance six weeks before the start of your holiday. If booking is within 6 weeks of arrival we require full payment at the time of booking. We also require a ?250 deposit against damages as a separate cheque which should be sent at the time of making final payment. All telephone charges, breakages, etc. will be made against the deposit and the balance returned to you. A welcome pack of immediate essentials such as tea, coffee, milk, etc. can be arranged if required for a small charge to cover the cost of the purchases. Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. In order to clean and check the house we ask guests to arrive between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and to leave at 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure.
In case of cancellation, the reservation deposit will be retained unless we can re-let or the whole payment if six weeks or less before the start of your intended stay. If we can re-let our additional expenditure, including advertising, will be deducted and the rest returned to you. We would therefore strongly advise you to take out holiday insurance which covers cancellation. This is widely available, for example from airlines, ferry companies, and the AA.
